It is now December. December 10th, to be exact. In two days, is the school's Annual Winter Dance. And guess what?
Everyone has a date. BUT ME.
"Come on, Tris," Shauna tries to reassure me. "Someone will ask you."
"Yeah right." I say as I plop down in my seat at our usual lunch table.
"And what makes you say that?" Al asks.
"The dance is in two freaking days!! Face it. No one is going to ask me. And quite frankly, I don't blame them."
"What? Why?" Christina asks.
"Come on guys," I say with an annoyed tone. "I'm short and ugly. No one likes me."
"That's not true." Lynn says.
"Yeah, okay," I say, rolling my eyes. "No one but you people."
"That's still not true." Mar says. "Four likes you."
"No he doesn't. If he does then he would of asked me already!" I shout the last part. I get up and grab my backpack, then storm out of the cafeteria, stealing the attention of many.
I walk outside and sit against a tree near the school field. I just sit there. For how long, I don't know. I pull my knees up to me and wrap my arms around them. I bury my head in my arms and close my eyes.
But after a while, someone comes and sits next to me. I don't look at them, but at their shoes. Black Converse. Its a big size too, so it must be a guy, after all, I doubt any girl has that size of shoes.
"Hey," a deep voice, coming from the unknown person, says. I look up and see Four looking at me worriedly with his deep blue eyes.
I frown and look at the street ahead of me. "Hey, what's wrong?" He asks. "Tell me."
"Its nothing."
"Its not nothing. If it was nothing, then you wouldn't be out here."
"What makes you say that? Maybe I'm and emotional freak that overreacts to everything. You don't know me much."
He laughs. "I think I know you enough to know that your not an emotional freak."
"Are you sure?" I smile at him. He wraps his arms around me and pulls me closer. "I'm sure." I rest my head against his shoulder, and we sit that way for a while, just watching the road ahead and talking.
He eventually checks his watch for the time. Cursing, he gets up and pulls me up with him.
"What?" I ask.
"Its almost the end of last class." He laughs.
"Yay!" I say happily, picking up my backpack. "Technically, we skipped school."
"Kind of." He says. "I actually don't know, because we still were on school property."
"Yeah, but we didn't go to class. Therefore, skipping."
"Okay. Whatever."
