I stare at the caller ID in apprehension. I can't decide if I should answer it or let it ring and go to voice mail.
"So then I was like, 'dude, you should know me enough by now to know how dangerous it is to take away my food.'" Uriah says, obviously telling a story, but he along with everyone else in our group stops and looks at me.
"Are you going to answer?" Christina asks me when she say the caller ID. "What if it's good? You wouldn't want to miss it." That's true, I wouldn't. But at the same time, I'm scared that it's going to be something bad. What if they're calling to tell me he died? What if he has brain damage? What if there was something bad in his health report?
What if they're calling to tell us we can't eat Dauntless cake anymore?
Rules are meant to be broken, right?
Whatever, focus.
Oh yeah.
Before I can worry myself anymore, I pick up the phone and answer it, and just in time too. If I had answered a few seconds later, it would have gone to voice mail. I don't want my friends eavesdropping, so I get up and walk outside.
"Hello?" I say into the phone.
"Hi, this is Chicago Hospital, is this Miss Prior?" A voice, that I recognize as the receptionist's, says at the end of the line.
"This is she." I answer. "Is everything alright?"
"Things are fantastic. actually. I have some great news for you."
"What is it?"
"Mr Eaton has woken up." I freeze. Shocked by what she just said.
"April Fools! Well, early April Fools, I guess."
"What?" I choke out. I don't have the energy to yell, otherwise I probably would.
"Haha! I got you! I'm kidding." She laughs. "Come to the hospital, he really did wake up."
"Okay, thanks." I rush. I run into the diner to me and my friend's table. "FOURWOKEUPANDINEEDTOGOTOTHEHOSPITALRIGHTNOW!" I say loudly and fast. My friend's blink at me.
"Repeat that but slower," Shauna says. "I couldn't understand yo-"
I cut her off, to much in a hurry to wait any longer. "T-Four woke up and I need to go to the hospital right now." I say slower, my right leg shaking in anticipation.
"Really?!" Zeke jumps up out of his seat, nearly knocking over the table. "Yes! I'm coming with you!" He shoves Al out of the seat and rushes over to me, Uriah following suit. "I'm coming too." Uriah agrees.
"Well let's go!" I run out the door with Zeke and Uriah following. Zeke takes out his keys and unlocks his car. I take the front seat and Uriah sits in the back, with Zeke driving.
After about ten minutes (ten agonizingly long minutes), we finally reach the hospital. I unclasp my seat belt and shove the door open, jumping out and slamming it shut behind me with a loud thunk.
Zeke, Uriah, and I run into the hospital, slowing down as we reach the door. I go up the receptionist desk.
"Hello, Miss Prior," she smiles. "You can head on in to his room, you remember where it is, right?" She asks and I nod. "By the way, he's been asking for you and only you ever since he woke up. They might have to wait." She added, gesturing to Zeke and Uriah by nodding her head.
"Okay." I wave my hand for the brothers to follow me and start walking to the stairs up to the second floor.
When we reach the room, I have Zeke and Uriah wait outside. I gently knock on the door and quietly open it. I see a nurse trying to give medicine to Tobias, but with no sucess.
"I don't want to!" Tobias pushes her hands away.
"You have to if you want to get better! It will help you heal!"
"Stop!" She tries again. "Stop, stop, stop! DOCTOR! HELP! HELP ME, SHE'S TRYING TO KILL ME!" He yells at the top of his lungs. I start laughing and walking towards his bed. He immediatley stops yelling, his hands frozen in the air. He looks at me blankly at first, but a smile creeps onto his face, getting bigger and bigger. He has a giant smile plastered onto his face when I reach the side of his bed. The nurse hands me the medications and a small cup of water. "Make him take it." She says to me before walking away.
I turn and look at Tobias. He's still grinning like an idiot. An adorable idiot, and idiot that I love.
"Hey." I say, now I'm smiling stupidly.
"Hey babe." He flirts. "Miss me?"
I loose it. I jump up and hug him tightly, careful not to hurt him at the same time. He pulls away momentarily, just to pat the space on the bed next to him. I climb onto the bed and get under the covers with him. I hook my arms around his waist and he holds me tightly.
"I did miss you." I whisper. "I missed you a lot. I thought you were gone."
"That shizzy (A/N I don't swear, so mind the replacements) nurse and the doctor said you never left. Like, never left."
I blus a little. "I- ah. I didn't." I say quitely.
"Awwh!" he says in a high-pitched, girly voice. "I wove woo!
I giggle and mimick him. "I wove woo, too!"
He laughs and holds me closer to him. I missed him so much. I'm glad to have him back. He's mine again, and I am his again.
"Tris?" He asks.
"Yeah?"
"I love you." He says, his goofy tone replaced with seriousness. "I really, truly, whole-heartedly love you."
My checks heat and my stomach fills with butterflies. "Really?"
"Yeah."
I smile. "I really, truly, whole-heartedly love you too."
His hands shift to my face. With one hand he cups my cheek and with the other he tilts my head up. I smile again and he crashes his lips onto mine.
I thread my hands into his hair and tug on it a little in an attempt to bring him closer. He lets out a small groan and shifts his body. I pull away and look at him funny.
"Is something wrong?" I ask.
"My head hurts. Badly."
Like a lightbulb, I remember something. I turn away and reach as far as I can to try to get the medicine without having to get up. I can't reach, so I grab the leg of the chair and drag it closer.
"Open your mouth." I say. Tobias does as I said and I pop the pills in his mouth. I bring the cup of water up to his lips and tilt it in. He swallows the pills along with the water.
"That wasn't that bad." I say, thinking about when he was screaming about the nurse trying to kill him.
"It wasn't that bad because you gave the meds to me. It would of been horrible if the nurse did... Is she even qualified? I should ask her that! Have her show me he licenses! Malpractice!" He rants.
"Tobias, seriously?"
"Yes, seriously. I don't think I feel entirety comfortable with my life in that poser's hands! I bet she just feings her so called "degree". I bet she didn't even go to medical school!"
"Tobias."
"I bet sh-"
"Tobias!"
He stops and looks at me. "Don't. She's gonna get mad, then there will really be malpractice, and it will be intentional."
"Okay." He says. I lay back down and rest my head on his shoulder. He wraps his arms around my waist and kisses my forehead. "Close your eyes, Tobias. The medicine will make you tired."
He mumbles something inaudible and closes his eyes. I can already tell he's getting tired.
After a while, I start getting sleepy. Just when I'm about to close my eyes, the door bursts open.
"Forgot about us?" Uriah says and Zeke glares at me with his arms crossed.
