Recap-
"Tobias," I say quietly. I'm sitting on the chair next to his hospital bed, with my head on his arm. "Please wake up. I need you. I don't know what I'd do if you leave. I love you, Tobias."
I hold his hand and give it a light squeeze in hope that it'll wake him up. With one hand I hold his and with the other I rub my forehead.
That's when I feel it.
A responding squeeze on my hand.
I look at Tobias's pale face with shock. "T-Tobias?" I stutter, my voice quite, only loud enough for him to hear. I search his face desperately, trying to see some sort if recognition. I repeat his name again and I see a slight twitch in his cheek. Hope floods through me and I hold his hand tighter.
"Tobias please, if you can hear me do something just a little more to show me." I plead with him.
Clutching his hand even tighter, I see his head turn to the right just barely a centimeter. A giant smile emerges on my face and I hug him tightly. "Oh Tobias, I love you so much!"
"Miss, is everything alright? I thought o heard commotion." Tobias's nurse says from the door.
"H-He moved! He moved!" I say excitedly, running over to the nurse.
"Really? That's great! Let me get Matthew."
-----
"He's doing really well. It's a good thing you told us about him moving his, what, hand and head? Yeah. It shows that he's hearing what we're saying, and is conscience enough to try to respond." Matthew informed me.
"So... When's he gonna wake up?" I ask desperately.
"I don't know."
"What? You just- ah- You just told me all this stuff about him and- and... And you don't know one little answer??"
"Miss Prior, it's not that easy. I can't see the future, if I could and if I did know when then I would tell you, but I don't! I don't know!" Matthew yells at me.
I shrink a little in my chair. The whole thing with Tobias has definitely taken a toll on me to a point where I can't handle yelling.
"Okay," I say quietly. "I shouldn't have asked."
Matthew sighs. "I shouldn't have yelled. The doctors down the hall probably heard me."
Just as Matthew predicted, another doctor peeked their head in the room. "Is everything alright?" She asked.
"Yes, yes, we're good."
"Okay." She said and walked out.
Matthew cleared his throat and turned back to me. "Well, at this stage all we really have to do is make sure the monitors are working and to wait. Besides that, there's not much else I can do. If you could continue talking to him regularly, that would help. But it's really up to him. He's partially conscience, so if he has the will to wake up, then he can."
I nod my head and sit back down. "I wish you and Tobias good health." He says as he walks out the door.
---
"Beatrice! Your home early." My mom says as I walk inside the living room.
"I have great news!" I say happily, almost too happily, Caleb and dad give me weird looks.
"I've never seen you so happy," Caleb says. "It's weird."
I laugh and sit down on the couch. "Your weird." I say, deciding that sitting is too boring at the moment. I bounce up and down, which is probably driving my family crazy.
"Sweetie, just tell us what's making you so happy."
"Tobias is doing so much better! He moved his hand and head, which is great!"
