-(Tobias' POV)-

"Tris, there's something I need to tell you."

Tris nods her head, silently saying to continue.

"My dad, Marcus Eaton,-"

"I know."

"Oh yeah. Well anyway, Marcus... um... he..."

"Just say it. It's okay."

"He beats me."

Tris freezes. "What?" Her voice cracks, tears well up in her eyes. "Why? Why would he do that to you?"

I look down at my hands. It's to hard to look at a sad Tris. It breaks my heart. "I don't know. I don't know why. I just know that he's never liked me."

Tris breaks down and cries. She hugs me tightly. I'm starting to break, and cry too. I've never cried in front of people before. Heck, I've never really cried in general. I bury my face into Tris's neck.

"Oh my God! Are you two okay?!" Christina asks concern laced into her tone.

Shiz again. I forgot we were in public.

My face however, is still covered by Tris's hair and neck. So discretely, I dry my eyes, and turn around. I didn't cry that much, so it isn't noticeable. Tris though... Her face is red, her eyes puffy, and her nose runny. "I tripped," She says quietly. "It hurt a lot, and Four was giving me a hug to make me feel better." She added with a reassuring smile.

Christina thought for a second, before shrugging. "Okay, cool, I guess. Well come on then, let's go to Science." She grabbed Tris's arm and dragged her to the class. Most likely forgetting that I am in the same class with them.

Sighing, I follow behind them to class. I have a feeling that today will be a long day.

"So..." Tris says. "You excited?"

"For what?" I ask.

Tris gasps. "Your coming over for dinner tonight, you idiot."

"Ooh yeah."

"Mhm. Now go!" Tris says, pushing me out of the bus seat. Every now and then I ride the bus with her.

"Why? Can't wait to get rid of me?"

"No. It's your stop."

"So it is. I'll see you later." Tris smiles and I kiss her cheek before getting off.

"Tobias!" I hear Marcus yell, once I walk through the door. "Where the hell have you been?!"

"Uh. School. You do know it goes from 7:20 to 2:00, right?"

"Don't talk to me that way."

"I'm not, I'm just frankly stating facts."

"Shut up you no good piece of trash!!" He yells at me.

Anger rushes through my blood. Usually I can control myself, but this time I lost it. With clenched fists, I managed to speak semi calmly. "Try. Your. Hardest."

Marcus's face turned red and he lunged at me. I dodged him, sprinting towards the door, but right before I reached the handle Marcus grabbed me back and threw me to the ground. I made impact with a loud thud. The wind was knocked out of me and I couldn't think for a second. I was quickly snapped out of my daze when Marcus kicked me in the ribs. Multiple times. Then again in my head. Black dotted the sides of my vision, and no matter how many times I blinked, it wouldn't go away.

Right before Marcus stole another kick, I rolled out of the way, then immediately jumped to my feet. While he was off guard, I punched him hard and square in the jaw. He stumbled back once, but quickly regained his balance. He darted at me again, and shoved me against the wall. His hands were gripped tight on my neck and only getting tighter. I attempted to punch him again, but missed, causing him to get angrier and hold onto me neck harder. I gasped for air, still coming up short. Seeing me struggle, Marcus's face grew into a dementedly wicked smile. The kind of smile you would match up with a physco killer/sociopath.
