I looked outside the window as a Peridot drove. My hair was soaked unlike the rest of my body, which had been wrapped in a warm beach towel. I rested my finger on my lips in thought. My mind was racing. My eyes were following. I still didn't know if I was playing tricks on myself, and I wanted so badly to know.

"So," Peridot said. "What's with the rush?"

"...I've been seeing things," I replied. "Around the beach. It's been getting to me."

"Seeing things?" Peridot asked.

"Yeah," I responded. "But today, I saw something that really got to me."

"What did you see?" Peridot looked at me with an anxious expression.

"...Topaz," I said.

Peridot's grip on the steering wheel tightened. She slammed the brakes. Luckily, we were in an isolated area, and no one was near us.

"Topaz?" Peridot asked, her eyes widening.

I nodded. "She was glaring at me," I said. "I think she's after me."

"She's after you?!" Peridot cried.

"I've been seeing her a lot lately," I said. "And...earlier, when you looked up, she ran away. If she wanted you, she would have stayed. I really think she's after me."

"Why would she want you?" Peridot asked.

"She probably wants to continue what Jasper was doing," I said. "She fled when you killed Jasper. Since Topaz is still here, she's probably trying to succeed her."

"You're right," Peridot replied. "Topaz was way too attached to her. She'd do whatever Jasper wanted."

"Do you think she has her own army?" I asked.

"Probably," Peridot answered. "Should be easy to take down. Topaz is powerless, and she's probably following in Jasper's footsteps."

"So, pretty much big powerless army without the levitation," I said.

"Pretty much," Peridot replied. "We'll Just have to keep an eye out for her."

"Right." I nodded.

Peridot gently pressed the car's accelerator until the car started moving again. Soon, we were cruising down the road again. No one would have known that we were escaping a vampire.

"Won't your mom know we weren't at school?" I asked, stroking my soaked hair.

"Laz," Peridot answered me. "That's the least of my problems right now."

I couldn't help smiling. I held her hand for the duration of the drive. As we pulled into the driveway, I looked at her.

"But what are you gonna do about your mom?" I asked.

"I have my ways," Peridot answered me.

I was pulled out of the car and dragged into the house by Peridot. I growled in protest, but my efforts failed. Peridot then picked me up and placed me on the counter effortlessly. I growled again.

"Peridot!" Yellow said, walking over to us.

When she noticed that we were wet, her eyes narrowed. I anxiouslg waited for her to bust us.

"So," she said. "You two either did a water activity at school or you skipped it."

"You're right on the second conclusion," Peridot responded.

"Peridot Olivine Diamond!" Yellow shouted.

Peridot winced at the use of her full name. "I-I have something that will make you realize that grounding me isn't a good idea!" She cried.
