I kept my eyes on the television, despite Lapis's cool head on my chest. She and the blanket covering her moved with her every breath in rhythm like the waves crashing on the shore. I kissed her head. She had a always described me as warm. To me, she was rather cool. Her temperature made me think of a popsicle on a warm summer day. Nice and refreshing. There had been many times where I just wanted to drop everything and marry her, and this was one of them. Instead, I tried to keep myself calm and hid my excitement. I simply pulled the blanket and covered Lapis's head with it, leaving her face exposed. She was so cute, I almost couldn't stand it.
Suddenly, the door opened, and Royal Blue came inside.
"Hey," I said. "What's up?"
"I just came to check on you," Royal Blue answered.
"We're fine," I replied. "You might wanna be quiet though. She's asleep."
Lapis groaned and shifted. I had to force myself to stay still. I was panicked. I didn't want to wake her up. I kissed her nose, and she calmed down.
"Phew," I murmured.
Royal Blue sat in a chair across from me and watched me get Lapis back to sound sleep. She intertwined her fingers and sighed.
"I came here specifically to ask how you're feeling," Royal Blue said.
"I'm alright," I replied.
"You don't feel bad at all?" Royal Blue asked.
"Well," I responded. "I still feel a bit guilty. I'd like to make it up to Lapis somehow, I just don't know how."
"She already forgave you," Royal Blue said.
"I know, but I still feel bad," I replied.
"Maybe you should try taking her out on a date," Royal Blue suggested.
"Maybe," I responded. "But I want it to be a good date. One that she'll remember. I wanna sweep her off of her feet and blow her away." I smiled at the thought of it. "But I don't have the first clue on how to do that."
"I'm sure Lapis would like to go on any old date," Royal Blue said.
"I want this to be special!" I exclaimed. "I want her to know that I love her more than anything, and she's the greatest girl I know!"
Lapis groaned again. I ran my fingers through her hair until she calmed down.
"Do you have any ideas?" I asked quietly.
"I'm not someone who knows a lot about this type of thing," Royal Blue replied. "You should ask someone who does know about this."
"Who would I talk to?" I asked.
"You can try talking to Smoky," Royal Blue suggested. "She knows a lot on this topic. You could talk to Ruby too. She's already imprinted on someone. I'm sure she could give you some tips."
"Sure," I replied. "I guess I'll have to ask them for some big date ideas."
"Go ahead," Royal Blue said. "I'll take care of Lapis for you."
The thought of someone else watching Lapis like this wasn't something I was very fond of. I had told Lapis that I was going to change. I could start by letting someone I trust watch Lapis. I could handle that, right?
"Fine," I said. "I'll be back later."
Royal Blue got up. She seemed to understand how much I didn't want to wake Lapis up. That made the transition from me holding Lapis to her very, very slow. We did eventually switch places. I sighed in relief.
