Peridot, unlike me, was very relaxed that morning. I was pacing around the living room, worrying. I wasn't just worrying about the situation in general, but mostly the two vampires Royal Blue had seen in her vision. I specifically remembered the trees Royal Blue had drawn behind them as well as what looked like the corner of a building. I had no idea who they were or what they were capable of. The only thing I know was they had to know Topaz, otherwise Royal Blue wouldn't have been able to see them.
"What's up?" Peridot asked, taking a sip of the milk in her cereal.
"I'm worried about the vampires," I replied.
"Laz," Peridot said. "It's my job to do the worrying. Just relax."
"You're not worried at all!" I cried. "In fact, you look just fine!"
"I'm concerned, I'm just trying to stay calm so you might be calm as well," Peridot replied, putting her spoon in her bowl. "What exactly has you worrying anyway?"
"Those two vampires," I said. "Who are they?"
"We're not sure yet," Peridot answered. "We don't know if we'll end up seeing them either."
Yellow walked back into the room. "You two have to leave for school soon," she said.
"I know," Peridot replied, putting her bowl in the sink. "Come on, Lapis, let's go."
I held Peridot's hand and let her lead me outside. She lifted me into her car and got into the driver's seat. As soon as I buckled up, Peridot started to drive.
"Are you still worried?" She asked.
"Yeah," I answered.
"You'll be okay," Peridot said. "I promise."
She gripped my hand and squeezed it. I looked at the window and blushed.
"What if I'm not okay?" I asked.
"Then I've broken my promise," Peridot answered. "And I'd hate myself."
"D-don't hate yourself," I said. "It wouldn't be your fault."
She shrugged. I pulled her hand to my chest and held it tightly. She looked over at me with a gentle smile.
"Aw," she whispered.
"But please don't hate yourself," I said.
"I won't," Peridot replied. "I'll be fine. Let's just stay focused on getting to school for now, alright?"
"Okay," I said.
She then pulled into the parking lot and let me out of the car. "Don't get run over," she joked, sticking out her tongue.
"I won't," I replied.
Peridot walked in front of me and gave me a quick kiss on the lips.
"Alright," she said. "Go run off to class. I'll see you at lunch."
I walked away from her, smiling. I looked back to see her growling at some other student who I assumed must have been staring. I rolled my eyes, thinking nothing of it. I always found her protectiveness kind of sweet, even if it could get annoying at times. That was when I considered it overprotectiveness.
I took a seat in my first class. As usual, it was rather boring, and I spent the time I had drawing. Amethyst was watching me draw in my notebook, appearing also to be bored.
Finally, lunch came. Peridot was waiting by the cafeteria door, so when I walked up to her, she took my hand. Then we walked inside. We sat with Amethyst and Pearl, who stared at us as usual. I looked at Peridot. Today, she had an unusual look in her eyes. She was glaring fiercely at Amethyst and Pearl. I wondered if she was beginning to become protective of me even around other humans. I laid my hand on her shoulder in hopes of calming her down. I couldn't tell if I was successful or not. She only looked at me and blinked.
