"Gold," Topaz said.
The youngest vampire stepped forward. She looked a little scared.
"Why don't you hit them with a good twenty-five thousand hertz?" Topaz asked.
Gold, which I assumed was the vampire's name, held her hands out towards us. Peridot let out a yelp and took a few steps back, covering her ears.
"What's happening?" I asked.
"Sh-she has a sound power!" Peridot shouted. "She has the power to create any frequency of sound! She's creating a really high frequency that you probably can't hear!"
I turned back to Topaz and Gold. "Stop it!" I cried.
Topaz rolled her eyes. "Twenty hertz," she said.
Again, nothing happened to me. Peridot was still covering her ears and clenching her teeth.
"What is she doing now?!" I cried.
"Twenty hertz," Peridot replied. "A frequency neither of us can hear, but can make us both feel really sick!"
"A-are you feeling sick?!" I asked.
"Yeah," Peridot answered. "H-how are you okay?"
"I don't know," I replied. "I don't feel anything."
Peridot stared at me confusedly and cocked her head to the side. She gasped.
"Your shield blocks the harmful frequencies she creates!" Peridot shouted. "Of course it's not affecting you!"
Topaz growled, clearly frustrated. "One hertz!" She shouted.
Peridot let out a snarl and clutched her stomach. I continued to not feel anything. It terrified me to see Peridot in so much pain. I had no idea what she was feeling. All I knew was one hertz was a lot of pressure. I looked back at the vampires, who were approaching me.
"Don't hurt her!" Peridot yelled, growling furiously.
"You can't stop us," Topaz replied. "You're stuck on the ground. You're too sick to help your best friend!" She faked a frown and wiped an invisible tear. "Cry me a river. You're not going to stop us."
Peridot was growling even more furiously than before. I carefully knelt next to her and held onto her for safety.
"Hand her over," Topaz ordered.
"No!" Peridot yelled in reply.
"Guess we'll have to kill both of you then, won't we?" Topaz asked.
"No! You're not killing either of us!" Peridot shouted.
"We made a deal, remember?" Topaz asked. "I challenged you to a fight, and you said you'd fight for the girl. I've won, so now the girl belongs to me."
"No, she doesn't!" Peridot cried.
She pushed herself off of the ground and tackled Topaz. She was breathing rapidly through her nose, very angrily. I realized that this wasn't just a little challenge for Peridot. This was Topaz trying to prove her point. Peridot had gotten angry very quickly, and despite being pinned by the pressure on her ears, she still made an effort to take Topaz down.
"Lapis!" Peridot cried. "Run!"
I turned tail and ran. I had a decent lead until the other vampire noticed me.
"Oh, no, you don't!" She shouted.
She blasted right in front of me, blocking my path to get back to the school. I tried to run away in the opposite direction, but I was grabbed by that vampire before I could get far. I screamed. All eyes were on me, even Topaz's.
