"You're not very used to this, are you?" Peridot asked.

"No," I answered. "I'm normally watching you from the sidelines. I'm never on the field."

"Well, now you are," Peridot said. "Isn't it great?"

"Nothing really spectacular," I replied.

"That's because we haven't done anything yet," Peridot said.

The rest of the werewolves met us on the beach. We all gathered in a circle. I looked at all of the werewolves. They were scratched up from the battle the night before, and they looked rather tired. I was a little tired myself, but I had already had some caffeine to wake me up.

"Did you guys see what this beautiful girl did last night?" Peridot asked, ruffling my hair.

The werewolves shook their heads. Peridot grinned. She looked down at me and winked. I looked away quickly, blushing.

"She got pinned to a tree by one of the vampires," Peridot said. "Electricity power. You know what happened next?"

The werewolves shook their heads again.

"This vampire used its power on her, and the strangest thing happened," Peridot said. "Her shield prevented the power from working on her, as usual, but it kept it active. She actually used it on the vampire."

"Who went flying into a tree," I added.

"Who went flying into a tree," Peridot repeated.

The werewolves looked at each other in awe. They seemed impressed. I was so proud to finally have helped. I had been waiting for an oppurtunity like this for so long, and it had finally come. I remembered when I had just come to school. I met Peridot, who soon revealed the existence of vampires and werewolves to me, and later became my girlfriend. I remembered the day we found out I was immune to vampire powers. Last night would mark the day we found out that shield could do more than we originally thought. It marked the night that I proved to be more useful than we once thought. It was a great feeling. For so long, I had wanted to return the favor to Peridot, and now, it finally seemed like I could do that.

"I'd like to test the capabilities of her shield," Peridot said. "I want to know what she can do."

I looked up at her. "Will I be able to help you guys?" I asked.

"Hey, hey, cutie pie," she replied. "As much as I'd like to say yes, I don't want to put you in danger like that. You nearly got killed multiple times last night. Plus, you got scratched from when that vampire threw you into the tree."

"Dioptase," I said.

"You'll get a chance one day, but you're not getting it now," Peridot responded, kissing my nose.

I growled.

There goes my chance.

"How are we gonna test this?" Pink asked.

"Easy," Peridot replied. "We just need to use some vampire pow—vampires. We need vampires."

Everyone looked at each other. No one wanted to use vampires, and that didn't exclude me.

"Then how in the world are we supposed to do this?" Peridot looked around at her friends, waiting for suggestions. No one said anything.

No one had thought through this, I could tell. All we knew is that I was capable of more than we o thought, and the only way to help me use that to my advantage was to put myself right in the face of danger. No one wanted to do that, of course, especially Peridot, but even she had admitted that it would be the only and best way to test my powers.
