My fingers were intertwined with Peridot's. It was a rare occasion where she had fallen asleep. The fact that I was awake was even rarer. Peridot unconsciously laid her head on my shoulder and sighed. I laid my arm on my eyes to try to fall asleep while Peridot was breathing on my neck. I didn't mind. All I wanted was to fall asleep. I eventually fell asleep to the consistent rhythm of Peridot's breathing.

I woke up again in a dark place. I couldn't tell if I was dreaming or it was real. Suddenly, I saw red eyes staring at me. They disappeared as I gasped. I looked behind myself, and the eyes were there again. I looked all around, and more red eyes appeared. I realized I was trapped.

"Lapis!" I heard Peridot shout.

My eyes snapped open. I was hyperventilating and shaking in fear.

"You were screaming..." Peridot said quietly. "A-are you okay?"

"I'm sorry," I whispered. "I just had a nightmare. I'm okay."

"You don't need to apologize," Peridot replied, holding my hands. "I'm just glad you're alright."

I shakily wrapped my arms around Peridot and sighed into her shirt. She stayed silent and let me calm myself down. As I began to cry, she wiped my tears with her thumb.

"Peridot..." I whispered.

"Yes?" Peridot asked.

"I'm scared," I whispered in reply.

Peridot looked at me with a sad expression. "Oh no," she said. "What will make you happy again?"

"Honestly," I replied. "I need sleep."

"Then go back to sleep," Peridot said.

I laid my head on her chest and felt her jump, startled. She quickly took a deep breath and calm down, letting me sleep. I closed my eyes. The last thing I saw was Peridot watching me, smiling. The last thing I felt was her hands going through my hair.

I woke up again, feeling not quite rested, but rested enough. Peridot was still awake. I knew she would be awake. She never fell back asleep after something happened to me at night.

"Good morning," she said. "Did you sleep well after your dream?"

"Yeah," I replied. "I slept fine."

"I'm glad," Peridot said.

I looked up at her. She wasn't wearing her glasses. I guessed that she had never put them back on even after I had woken up from my nightmare.

"Can Royal Blue see the future of everyone?" I asked.

"That she knows," Peridot replied.

"Even vampires?" I asked.

"Even vampires," Peridot answered.

"Can she see Topaz's plan?" I asked.

"She's been waiting for a vision of it lately, but she hasn't gotten one just yet," Peridot responded. "I asked her myself. We're both getting impatient."

"Do you think she'll ever see Topaz's plan?" I asked.

"I think she'll see it eventually," Peridot replied.

I yawned. I saw Peridot smile out of the corner of my eye. I would never understand what she found so special about a human like me. She even smiled when I yawned or sneezed. I wanted to ask, but it felt like a personal question.

"Are you hungry?" She asked.

"A little," I replied.

"Let's get you some breakfast," Peridot said.
