Jayden

"You can stay in this room," I opened the door to the guest room. My mother had just flown in. I had to wake up extra early to wait for her at the airport. Good thing I went to bed early yesterday in order for me to be well rested to get her and then go to work. "Like it?"
"This is beautiful son," she said looking around. "If you're not careful I may just move in," she laughed.
"You know you're more than welcome to mom," I chuckled. I put her bag down on the floor. "I know the trip wasn't too long but you should go ahead and get rested up. I have to go to work soon so make yourself at home."
"When am I going to meet this girl of yours? She is the reason I came down here after all."
"And here I thought it was because you missed," I smiled. "I'm inviting her to dinner tonight so you two can meet then."
"Awe I'm excited. Hopefully she's a lot better than those other girls you used to date."
"She is mom. She's smart, dedicated, and very beautiful. You two will get along great. I have to go to work so I'll see you later tonight."
"Okay! Make sure you bring your girlfriend. I'm so excited! Grand babies for me."
I chuckled. "Not yet mom. Please, keep the baby talk to a minimum. I don't want you to scare her off."
"Okay son," she smiled. "You're going to work now? You should eat something before you go."
"I don't have time mom."
"Skipping breakfast isn't good Jayden," She chastised. "I've told you that countless times you need to eat before submerging into your work. You're going to end up passing out one of these days."
"I'll be fine mom. I have to go. See you when I get off." My mom has always been overprotective of me since I was little. It was annoying but I'm grateful to her immensely. I wouldn't be half of who I am if it wasn't for her.
As I got into my car and started the long drive to work my mind wandered to Monique. I've been trying to contact her all weekend. I didn't want to bombard her with a bunch of texts so I just texted her every so often to try and smooth things over. I didn't want her to think I abandoned her or anything.
I never got a reply from her and it has me a bit worried. I don't know if this is a repeat of her disappearing act from last weekend or if she was really angry with me. Luckily we work together so I can just pop up at her office and see what's going on with her. I just hope we can work things out and I'll be able to get her to meet my mom.
I doubt she's blowing me off. With the thug in jail and the other guy out the picture the smartest and best option would be me. Monique is smart. She knows I was the only viable choice in the first place.
Short update. Tell me what you think.
