Zyshonne
*
I've been in a cell for almost a whole damn week. Isaiah got out on bail yesterday and said he was going to see what's been going on. Don't know how true that shit is. My mind has been on Monique and Cadie a lot. I miss my damn baby man. These fuckers was bullshitting on getting me my one phone call. I need to check on them. Especially Mo. I don't know how hard she's taking this. She's going through a lot of shit and the last thing she need is to worry about me in this bitch.
"Zyshonne Carter," this pussy ass nigga came up to my cell. "Your lawyer is here."
I gave him the screw face. These niggas wouldn't let me call home how the hell did I get a lawyer? I put my hands behind my back and he put the cuffs on me. I grunted because this fucker knows my shoulder is fucked up and he's being rough as hell. He escorted me to some room where two people sat. One was a female in a skirt and the other was a nigga in a suit. I recognized the nigga as Mo's old boss.
"You can remove the cuffs off of my client," the lady said. The nigga grumbled but did it.
"He's all yours." The dude touched my bad shoulder roughly. I damn near knocked his shit loose.
"Bitch ass nigga," I mumbled softly rubbing my sore shoulder. "What's going on? I didn't call for a lawyer."
"I know," Jackson said leaning back in his seat. "I ran into Little Mo and she was telling me what's been happening with you so I offered the best lawyer I know."
"My services still ain't free," the girl said. "Brother or not I want my money nigga."
"Yeah yeah. Just do what you gotta do to get him out of here."
"This case is really child's play," the girl said. "I'm more than confident I can get you off. You might get stuck with community service and that's the worst case scenario."
"You can work magic like that?" I raised my brow.
"You have no idea who I am. If I can get people off of drug charges a little assault and battery is nothing to me. Besides, any woman would agree this man is no VICTIM. I do have a few questions though. I know you got shot but did you receive proper medical attention? Have they been accommodating you?"
"They let me get stitched up but that's it. Haven't been given my one phone call either so I can't check on my fam."
"Okay. This is good. You can use my cellphone to call anyone you need to let them know your predicament and the progress so far. They won't say anything to you." She handed the phone to me and I called mom's first. She was relieved to finally hear from me and was glad I might be coming home soon. I talked to the old man too and he told me to keep my head up. Cadie was crying and said she wanted me to come home. it hurt to get off the phone with her.
"Can I call somebody else?"
"Yeah go ahead."
"Hello?" she answered.
"Mo? It's me Zy."
"Zy?! Oh my god, are you okay?! No one's heard from you all week. We were worried and they would never tell us anything about you."
"Yeah I'm straight. They've been giving me the run around over here but everything's good. I see you got friend's in high places."
"Yeah. Andre offered to give us his lawyer for you when I went to the doctor. I'm still waiting on the test results."
"You're gonna be straight Mo. Don't worry about it. I have to go but don't worry about me alright? Stay strong."
"I will," she said lowly. "Love you Zy."
"Love you too." I handed the phone back to my lawyer.
"I'll be back," she said getting up. "I'm going to make a few calls and get this ball rolling."
"Why are you helping me? We're not friends or none of that shit and you're trying to get me out. Why?"
The dude crossed his arms and leaned back. "Little Mo is like a sister to me. I can tell she really cares about you and right now she needs you in her life."
"Like a sister my ass," I mumbled.
He chuckled. "Trust me kid, it's not like that. I have a beautiful wife and kids I go home to everyday. I don't need anyone else." I didn't say anything. I didn't know whether or not to believe him. He seems genuine but I don't know. "So young blood what are your plans once you get out of here?"
"Going home to my daughter and check on Monique."
He nodded his head. "That does include staying out of trouble right?"
"I don't go looking for trouble."
He laughed lightly. "Yeah sure you don't. I hope you do for Mo's sake. I don't think she'll appreciate being one of those females that can only see her man behind a glass."
"I don't know what you're talking about," I said looking away from him.
"You don't have to lie to me," he chuckled. "I knew something was up when you raised hell at my company because we have a no visitation policy. I still remember how Mo chewed your ass out. She was always so quiet and shy around the office it surprised the hell out of me. When security couldn't calm you down I was more than ready to throw your out myself but Mo beat me to it. Her little ass was able to turn the big bad wolf into a damn puppy."
"Ain't that funny," I mumbled remembering that day. Mo wouldn't talk to me for weeks saying my actions almost made her lose her job. That was a miserable ass time for me.
"It is. It's funny because I've seen that exact scenario with me and my wife. Whenever I got worked up she was the only soul brave enough to put me in my place. I know love when I see it. And the fact you came to me as a man to apologize for your behavior and beg me not to fire her showed me that. Why do you think I bent the rules for you and Mo and allowed you to keep coming back to bring her lunch? I was rooting for y'all."
"Thanks," I said, surprised he wanted us together. I always thought he had some weird ass crush on Mo. "But it's in vain. We're not meant to be. I told her how I felt and when I was finally able to take her out shit didn't go right. Everything got fucked up and the date ended badly. It's all my fault though. I treated the shit like a game because I was afraid someone else was going to win her over."
"So the date ended up badly, who cares? You know what you did wrong so that means you can fix it. If one embarrassing date is going to scare you off then maybe you don't deserve her." I was about to chew his ass out when he held his hand up. "Calm down hot head let me finish. I know you're a good guy and Mo has a lot of love for you so I'm telling you this for your own good. Your date failed because that's what it took in order for you guys to succeed."
"You think so?" I asked.
"I know so. You were so nervous about your date you forgot something important. Be yourself. That's who Little Mo fell for. That's who Little Mo is going to need. When you get out of here try the date over but be yourself. I guarantee the results will be different."
I hesitated a bit. The first time around was embarrassing enough. I'm scared of having a repeat of that situation. But the main reason for me coming clean was to have no regrets later on in life. I want to be able to say we gave it everything we got. Maybe we should try it again. "Alright," I said. "I'll try the date again but only if your lawyer can make the magic she says she can."
He smiled. "You won't be disappointed. She's the best after all. And let me know when you plan on opening up your restaurant so I can bring my family through. You're a bomb ass cook lil nigga. Mo used to get mad when I would sneak the food you cooked from her."
I chuckled. "Yeah she gets possessive as hell when it comes to food. And I appreciate the compliment. And I will."
This update was supposed to have been up sometime last night but I got distracted at work so here it is. Next chapter is also a decent length so it may take a little while before it's up. I have some ideas that are brewing for upcoming surprises!!! 😈😈😈
