Monique

I was in the zone. Paperwork slowly decreased and I was finally catching up with backed up filing. I was getting really annoyed with the amount of work I'm being dropped with. It feels like I'm doing this project all by myself. God I wish Toni was here. It would be so much easier with her help.
"Miss Sanders?" Linda's voice came through the speaker.
"Yes?"
"You have a caller on line 1. They say they are a potential client."
"Okay thanks," I said picking up the receiver and getting the call. "Thank you for calling Hewitt Corporation Design Department. My name is Monique Sanders how can I assist you today?"
"You sound very professional there thickems," someone chuckled over the phone.
My eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "Excuse me? Who is this?"
"Awe damn. I thought you would've remembered my voice. I'm hurt."
"Look sir, I don't take kindly to practical jokes so I ask that you not call me again."
"Damn girls it's Jamel chill out," he laughed.
"Jamel? As in Isaiah's friend?" I was so confused like why is he calling me? At work nonetheless.
"You know anymore Jamel's I should know about?"
"Well...no-I just-can't believe you're calling me."
"Yup, it is I. The one and only Jamel Smalls calling you princess. Bask in my greatness."
I slick rolled my eyes but could help the small smile that came on my face. "Cocky much?"
"I have every reason to be cocky," I could just feel him smirking through the phone.
"Mhmm. I know you didn't call me to flex your ego."
"You're right. Smart. I like that in a woman." I blushed slightly. "But I was just sitting here thinking just how hungry I am."
"Really?" I raised my brow.
"Yeah. I'm starving but I hate to eat alone. So I'm thinking to myself 'what beautiful thick goddess would dine with me today?'."
"I'm sure you know a lot of them to choose from don't you?"
"You're right but there's this one particular one who owes me so I'm gonna cash in that favor. So I hope you're ready."
"Wait what favor?"
"Oh you know, coming to your rescue at the dinner. As a token of gratitude I think you should buy me lunch."
"Me buy you lunch? You can't be serious."
"As a heart attack babe. You got ten minutes to meet me downstairs."
"But I already have-" the phone disconnected letting me know he hung up. "Plans," I muttered. "Great." I put the extension number to Jayden's office.
"Director Hawke," he answered.
"Hey Jayden it's me Monique?"
"Ah yes is it time for lunch already?"
"Yeah well about that. Something just came up and I have to take a rain check. Is that okay?"
He was quiet for a bit on his end. "Yeah that's fine. I do have a lot of work to do anyways."
"Thanks for understanding. I promise I'll make it up to you." I hung up and gathered my things quickly. As I made it to the ground floor I saw Jamel leaning on the front desk talking to the secretary. I had to admire his physique. Jamel had always been cute to me but now that we're grown he's fine as fuck. He bulked up a bit since our younger days. The closer I got to him the faster my heart would beat. Jamel had always made me a bit nervous to be around. "H-Hey," I said.
