Jamel

I pulled up to the house ready to chow down. Even after the last dinner disaster they wanted to host again. I honestly don't see the point in these 'family dinners' when nine times out of ten it leads to drama. I mean I'm not complaining. Free food am I right? Although, this time it's not just the food that made me come.
"What's up family?" I walk inside.
"Hey Mel," Tay smiled waving at me. Looking around I noticed it was just her. No kids and no husband.
"What's going on Tay? You by yourself tonight?"
"Yeah. The kids are with their grandparents and Hector had to work late. Listen, I wanna apologize about the other night. It really wasn't my place to say anything about the past and I didn't mean to make you upset."
"It's whatever," I shrugged. "And I'm not the one you should be apologizing to."
She looked confused for a moment before realization dawned on her. "Oh I already apologized to my grandmother-"
"Not her Tay. You know who I'm talking about. What y'all did was fucked up and uncalled for. That girl has a lot of restraint because if it was me I would've cussed y'all to hell and back a long time ago. Shit, I probably would've done worse and fuck you all up."
She looked taken back by what I said. "We didn't do anything wrong. How can you take her side?"
"Because she's the only side that's right. Y'all straight bullied her and you expect someone to be on your side? You have no right to treat her that way and you know it. But whatever Tay. I can see y'all got some growing up to do." I walked away from her before she agitated my nerves even more. I came here for someone else anyways. "What's up Isaiah?" I greeted him as he was coming downstairs.
"Sup Mel?" We showed each other love. "Didn't think you'd come after last time."
"Yeah well, I was free so whatever. Granny throwing down?"
"Oh you didn't get my message? She couldn't make it this time so it's just Tay and my mom cooking tonight." Well, there goes my appetite. I love Saiah's mom really, she just can't cook to save her life. The food is always either too salty, undercooked, over cooked, or bland. Tay ain't no exception either. If anything she's worst a cook.
"I guess Mo ain't finna help huh?"
He looked at me crazy. "She's not coming. She only answers granny's texts so we didn't bother sending her a message. Besides, we don't need her eating up everything."
"Trust me, that's something you don't gotta worry about," I mumbled.
"What was that?"
"Nothing," I sighed. "So only granny can reach out to her huh? I guess I'll talk to her then."
Isaiah eyed me suspiciously. "Why you wanna know?"
"Ain't it obvious? I'm tryna get in touch with Mo."
"Why?" It was my turn to side eye him.
"I don't think that's any of your business."
"You like her or something?" I shrugged. "Nah dead that."
I raised my brow at him. "Excuse me?"
"You ain't about to talk to my little sister. You can get that thought right of your head. I won't allow it."
"Allow?" I laughed. "My nigga who the hell do you think you are? All these years all you did was belittle and talk about that girl. Now you wanna be the worlds best big brother? Nah son, how about you dead that shit." I walked away laughing. Like this man really tried it.
"I'm serious Mel," he walked in front of me. "Stay away from my sister."
"Now she's your sister? I could've sworn she was just a fat mistake left by yo old man? Ain't that's what you used to call her?" He stood there silently glaring at me. "In case you have forgotten she's grown. I'm grown. The only man that has any say in whether or not we can or can't fuck with each other is god. If I wanna fuck with her then that's my business. I suggest you stay out of it."
"Mel you're supposed to be my boy!" He yelled.
"What's going on?" Mom and her husband came out the kitchen while Tay pokes her head in from the living room.
"Nigga grow a pair," I waved him off. "Over here throwing a damn temper tantrum for what? Cause I'm interested in Mo?"
"Wait what?" Tay looked upset and jealous. "Why you interested in her? She's nothing but a fat bitch."
"Correction, that so called fat bitch got a masters degree and working as manager in one of the top construction businesses in the state. She can cook and take care of herself. Not once have I seen her ask anybody for anything. She's a hustler that's on her grind so to answer your question on why I would be interested in a sophisticated well educated woman I think that speaks for itself. How old are you Tay? 25? What do you have to show for yourself?"
"That's enough Jamel," their mother said. "I won't let you disrespect Taylor in my house."
"But y'all can disrespect Mo in hers? I'm sorry ma but that shit ain't right. No matter how you look at it. Y'all talk so much shit about Mo and it's always about her weight or the fact she was conceived from an affair. You had two kids yourself. You know damn well ain't none of them asked to be here. How is it Mo's fault for something YOUR husband did? Y'all weren't the only ones that lost somebody. No lost both of her parents while you were still around to take care of yo kids and get remarried. Y'all need to stop putting the blame on Mo. she didn't break up your marriage or home. If you gonna be angry be angry at ya late husband." They we're all silent. Nobody said anything. I just shook my head and headed for the door. "Don't bother inviting me to another dinner. I don't know how much longer I can deal with the ignorance."
"Mel we're your family," Tay said. "Not her."
I chuckled. "I'm good Tay. I don't need a family that's gonna treat their own like that. Y'all got a lot of shit to say about Mo but what you need to learn to do is speak facts. That girl is doing the damn thing by herself and not once has she stooped to y'all level of petty and bitterness. She's an adult maybe y'all should learn from her example." And with that I walked out the door.
I knew Isaiah and them didn't particularly like Mo for whatever reason. And yes over the years I overheard Tay and Isaiah taking shots at her and I admittedly said nothing at the time. But I've never seen them come at her the way they did and the shit annoyed me. Maybe they'll grow up and realize who the real victim is.
Okay first off, sorry about the late late update. My computer is fixed but for whatever reason I cannot access the Wattpad website so now I have to type from my phone until I can either figure out the problem or get a new laptop. Sorry again you guys 😔. Hope you enjoyed the chapter at least.
