Chapter 31

Today was the day that Ashton and I were going to see my college for the first time and look around my student accommodation.

It felt a bit weird bringing Ashton when this was the whole problem in the first place. But I wanted to show him that I was going to be safe and he insisted on coming anyway.

We all got into my mums car and I passed her one of my CDs to put it as she let me choose one because we were going for me.

'Are you excited Jade' my mum beamed, looking into the mirror so that she could see me

'I suppose' I said. I didn't want to say too much about it in front of Ashton. He said he was happy and proud of me but I can tell the thought of me moving away was still bothering him.

All together, it took us just over 2 hours to get to the college. It would take twice as long to get the train, which I would most likely to be doing when I went home to visit.

'Name?' an old man asked as I walked up to the registration desk

'Jade Healy' I replied

He searched through a list that was on a piece of paper in front of him for a few seconds before crossing off what I could only assume was my name.

Then he handed me a booklet and told me to follow the map to a building that he had circled.

We followed the route that the map shown us until we reached a building that was just off the campus where I was asked to follow a boy who was stood waiting.

'Hello Miss Healy, I'm Bradley I'll be showing you around your student accommodation today' said the boy. I'm guessing by the looks of him, he was only around 20 years old.

'Is this your mum and brother?' he asked

'I'm actually her boyfriend' Ashton said before I could even catch the breath to say another word

'Oh I apologise, my mistake' Bradley said and smiled

Ashton stood giving him a dirty look and it caused some tension.

After a few seconds of awkward silence, Bradley began to show us around.

'You have been assigned room 186. The lift is just to the right here'

We all squeezed into the small lift and we pressed the floor that my room was on. Ashton made sure he held me close and kept a close eye on Bradley. I looked at him and shook my head slightly.

'Here we are' said Bradley as we got to the door. He handed me the key so I could open the door myself.

'This is the shared area that all of the people in this section will share-'

'You mean she doesn't have a full room to herself' Ashton said interrupting Bradley

'Well, she will have her own bedroom and bathroom but the kitchen and living area is shared with three other people' Bradley explained

'They will all be girls right?'

'Well it will most likely all be girls in the same section but there is a possibility there may be boys as well as they only share the living area an-'

'But that's not right really. What if she wanted to go out to get a drink just after she's had a shower and there's a guy sat there? It's not really acceptable'

'Ashton stop, really it's fine' I said

'No it's not it's-'

'Ashton' I shouted 'Seriously it's okay'

The rest of the tour after Ashton had stopped making a big deal out of everything turned out okay. It seemed like a really nice place and I liked my room.
