New Year

The last bit of December was grey and lonely. BTS did a Hi-Touch event in Japan, several interviews and appeared on 2 different talk shows. We were able to watch one of them on a Japanese channel we streamed online. Our days were filled with dog walks, relaxing family time at home and video chats with the boys. Jin was a homebody like me and I knew that it grated on him to be away so often. I was glad when the pictures of their arrival home at the Incheon airport surfaced on fancafe. I knew he was off to his parents home to spend the holidays there.

December 31st, the boys were at a restaurant, filming a New Years' special a few hours early for replay at midnight and the liquor was flowing. I could just imagine the racous hi jinx the boys would get up to once the cameras left. Sure enough, my phone rang around 10pm. The boys were loud. Jin was louder.

"Hello, Telly! We are drinking!" I had to laugh.

"You don't say!" I heard someone toast in the background and had to pull the phone away from my ear to avoid being deafened by the cheers.

"I miss you. I was away. Far far away." He giggled at himself. "Like a fairytale. But now the hero has come home!"

"Welcome home, hero." Even the kids were laughing now. The phone wasn't on speaker, but they could hear him nonetheless. "Did you have a nice visit with your family?"

"I had a nice visit. I didn't visit you....You should come visit me. Guys! She is going to come visit us!" There were cheers again and the phone hung up. I looked bewildered at the children. We continued our Uno game.

The phone rang again. Jin.

"When are you coming to visit? We are at a restaurant. It is pretty busy but I will wait for you."

"Well, Jin, I..." He gave me the name of the restaurant and there was phone silence again.

Do I get ready to go? Or is there any point in going? Would he even remember that he had asked me to come? It was 10:15 now. We finished the round of Uno with Éowynn slaughtering us all, and decided it was time for bed. Kids trooped to the bathroom to brush teeth and I quickly washed up our teacups. By 10:30, all were settled and I sang their favourite lullabies. At 10:40, the phone rang again. I took it in the bedroom. It was Jins' number, but not his voice.

"Telly-Nim? Hi, it's V. Are you coming? Jin won't shut up about you coming to visit. He says you are on your way and he isn't leaving until you arrive."

"Oh. Okay, I can come by. It's R/N, right? I will head out now."

"Thank you. We are upstairs. I will tell the owner to expect you."

I sighed, looking in the mirror. I was in my pjs and my hair in a messy braid. I sped as quickly as I could through the basic preparations of making myself look presentable. Only 5 minutes later, I decided that was all it was going to get and I went out to meet the taxi, giving the kids a quick run-down.

The streets were packed and the taxi driver had to be quite aggressive to get us to the restaurant. It would normally have only been a 30 minute drive, but took about 48 minutes instead. People already staggering were stepping randomly off the curb and we had to be on the constant lookout for such antics. Every time we stopped at a light, someone came rushing over and tried the handle, trying to get in. My driver hit the locks and muttered under his breath. When at last we reached the restaurant, I admonished the driver not to go too far, I didn't intend to be long.

The host led me up to a private room upstairs where I was greeted by the sight of 7 drunk men. RM and Suga were putting their coats on and Jin kept tugging them off.

"You can't go! She is coming to visit us! We have to stay and visit!"

"She is coming to visit YOU." Namjoon chided, looking up to see me enter, "Besides, she is here."
