Day 1: Jin and I spent the day in pyjamas and housecoats, alternating babies and exchanging looks of love and wonder. All 6 uncles spent the day in our apartment and the food deliveries seemed to arrive hourly. We camped in the living room, in mountains of pillows and blankets, sharing stories and laughter. Names were discussed and tried out. Thistle, Yeontan, Holly and Mickey raced around, playing like wild things and collapsing into a heap to nap. Daylight faded into night and Daddy Jin moved the crib next to the bed and dropping the side so it became an extension of our mattress. We fell asleep with both babies under my arm, SeokJin spooned behind me, his arm over us all.
Week 1: The tired had hit. Fortunately, we had lots of help. Babies had been introduced to the media and SeokJin had to return to work. Jungkook appeared frequently, camera in hand, and was likely documenting the life of the twins in consistent ten minute intervals. True to their word, Tae and Kookie kept the dishes clean and each uncle made, at least, daily visits. The other 4 children were back to school, chaperoned by a Big Hit driver, and Bang PD Nim himself had come by to offer congratulations. JinYoung was well and recovered and popped by once to say hello. He had a neck brace but looked to be fully recouped very soon.
Month 1: Everything was much quieter now. The boys were gone on a tour and the apartment was as still as one with 7 people could be. Every evening we shared a video chat with SeokJin and, more often than not, at least another 2 of the guys. He worried constantly and we did his best to assure him that all was well.
"So you are all okay?" SeokJins' nervous expression came over the screen, eyebrows scrunched, leaning in. I laughed.
"Absolutely. No fire, no disaster...all is well here. We just miss you."
He sat back, arms hugging a pillow.
"I miss you all, too."
Eowynn came in to lift the baby girl from my lap and trade me for the boy in her arms.
"I'll get her to bed now, Eomma. Hello, Appa!" She waved at the screen, carefully cradling her baby sister. Jin waved, happily.
"Hello, Eowynn! How is school going?" She grinned.
"Very well. My math mark has really improved and I am loving drama class!"
"She's a natural." I interjected. Jin grinned. Eowynn glowed under the praise.
"I see you are a big help. Thank you for that." He was ever the attentive one. "You keep taking good care of your Eomma for me."
Eowynn bid him good night and left to retire her sister.
"How's my boy?" Jin changed his attention now to the tiny babe nursing at my breast. I ran a finger over the soft cheek.
"Handsome. Growing like a weed. He has put on a pound, you know."
"That's great." We paused for a long time, me soaking in the sweetness of Jins' loving gaze on his child. Good byes always came too soon.
Month 2: They were home for one week and it seemed there were months worth of time that we were trying to cram in there. The second evening had all of us up in the dorm this time. Namjoon was showing us songs from Hoseoks' upcoming album, telling with pride all the production brilliance that his protege had shown. The maknaes were scrapping over the food laid out on the table.
"Jungkook, can you please pass me that steak?" Jimins' gentle voice sounded from beside Cher.
"Of course, Hyung."
"Ahhh! Kookie, you brat!"
Chers' voice came through, higher with laughter. "He gave it to you."
