"JinYoung! What a pleasant surprise! What brings you here?" Since his graduation, the handsome lad had not graced my classroom. He looked out of place in jeans and a loose shirt, his long coat hanging over his arm.
"You said that you knew about an audition this month?" His dark brown eyes scanned the room, still giving flirtatious grins at my students filing in for the next class. I pulled open my desk drawer and pulled the page from my notebook where I had written the details.
"Absolutely. Here is all the information." I handed him the paper. He wiggled his eyebrows at a girl passing as he tucked the note into his pocket.
"You all missing me here?" I laughed.
"Of course! Things are much less...eventful now that you graduated." Cher had just walked in to take her seat. JinYoungs' eyes flew open.
"Cher..." She nodded once, curt.
"JinYoung." He went over to Chers' desk, kneeling down beside her. She was setting out her books, pointedly ignoring him.
"You look beautiful." Her pencil case dropped onto her desk and she unzipped it, roughly. "I am going to an audition this month. I am going to be an idol. I can take good care of you."
"I take great care of myself, thank you very much." She drew out a long, pointed pencil and her fist closed around it as JinYoung reached out to brush one red lock behind her ear. I saw her knuckles whiten. I rushed over, pulling the pencil from her grip.
"The bell is going to ring, JinYoung. You best be on your way." He stood up, stretching languidly, fully enjoying the admiring glances from the girls in the class.
"Tell your boyfriend I said Hi. And to watch out..." JinYoungs' handsome face broke into a grin as he paced to the door, then turned to wink at Cher.
"Don't worry. I will." Cher shot back.
After school, we met up with the boys. We were all at Jins' apartment, awaiting a pizza delivery and the children and I were pouring drinks for everyone. Jin came into the kitchen, saw me pour the juice and reached for a cupboard, pulling out some hard liquor instead.
"How was filming today?" I laughed, seeing the stress etched on his handsome face. Jin poured himself a leg and swallowed it down in one mouthful. He paused, then poured another.
"That Diva is...something else." Jungkook was digging through the fridge, finding Ranch dressing and hot sauce for Éowynn. He butt-bumped it shut once he had located the treasures.
"She's beautiful." He remarked.
"Oh, yes." Jin agreed. "Pretty face. Pretty intense. Pretty..." He shook his head and tilted the glass again. "We film again on Saturday. The first emotion is fear so...that'll be fun." I set down the pitcher and went over to hug Jin to me.
"It's only a show. You know it isn't real." I wrapped a hand around his. He brought it to his mouth, kissing my palm. I smiled, confidentially acknowledging the gesture. "Besides, afterwards, you can come home and I will comfort you. Do you want me to spend the night here Saturday?" Jin nodded. I leaned up to his ear, whispering, "I can't hear you." He blushed furiously. My comment had had the desired effect.
"Yes." He growled.
"Well," Taehyung spoke up from the table where he and Jungkook were stealing grapes from the fruit bowl, "If you guys have plans, what are us kids going to do?" Namjoon laughed.
"Suga, Hobi and I are recording. We are out until late Saturday." I saw Brigette cross her arms and pout. Hoseok laughed and crouched down, making faces to distract her. Jimin sideslipped into the crowded kitchen.
"I was going to practice for my driving exam. Cher is quizzing me from the book." I pointed at him.
"No offence, Jimin, but no driving with my children in the car. Not until you are legal and have had some practice." His beautiful features pulled back into a big smile, his eyes shrinking to crescents.
"I wouldn't want them in the car. I will just drive with Jungkook for awhile." JK flexed, trying to look impressive.
"Because I am a pro." We all laughed at that, Jimin running his hand through his precisely cut locks.
"I am just practicing for the test." Yoongi stepped in, just far enough to pull the fridge open and reach for a beer.
"I'd take you driving, but I am not suicidal." Jimin giggled as though he had been complimented.
"There is a new roller rink open this month." Taehyung offered. Jungkook nodded vigorously, biting into a mango, then swiping at the juices running down his chin.
"Mmmm..." He sighed, holding the fruit out to Éowynn, who delightedly took a bite. She grinned, her eyes savouring the boy offering the treat as much as the fruit itself. The door buzzed from the downstairs lobby.
"Pizza is here!" Namjoon sat up off the counter, his jean pocket snagging on a drawer. As he took a step forward, the drawer was yanked, clattering to the ground, scattering utensils in his wake. I went over to help, his sheepish grin of apology intensified with the adorable dimples puckering his jaws.
"Maybe I should go grab it. Yoongi?" Hoseok and Yoongi headed downstairs. Jin saw me struggling to retrieve ladles and spatulas around the milling legs.
"Everybody, out of my kitchen. And Jungkook; leave some fruit for dessert!" JK looked up, questioning, his cheeks full as a chipmunk, his hands now cradling a large clump of grapes. Jin plucked it from his paws and physically set him on his way. The Maknaes' hand shot out and stealthily grabbed a soda from the counter in passing. Jin Hyung swung back to the fruit bowl where Tae was hurriedly stuffing berries into his mouth as quickly as he could. Atticus had succumbed to peer pressure and was following suit. "You too!" Jin shooed V out. I gave my children the chin point and they quickly dispersed.
Once the pizza came, we were all seated in the kitchen with paper plates on knees, everyone diving into the hot slices.
"Wait! Telly-Ah, would you say a prayer?" Yoongi held his hands out.
"What for? I am already here." Jungkook choked on his mouthful.
"Exactly. May God have mercy on us all..." Yoongi lifted his middle finger at JK. When he caught my raised eyebrow, Suga carefully used the offending finger to wipe at the corner of his mouth.
"Sorry," he muttered, half smirking. "Had some cheese there..." Éowynn snorted.
I offered a quick prayer and all the company bowed their heads and closed their eyes respectfully. At "Amen", Taehyung smiled.
"Feels like home." Everyone agreed. I looked up at Jins' eyes on me.
"It does."
