The Funeral

Maya's POV

It was 2 in the morning. the house was quiet. the kids were all asleep. Miles and I were cuddling, asleep in bed. the phone rang,

"Mmm, Miles get the phone." I said not opening my eyes

I felt his side of the bed shift as he reached for the phone.

"Hello?" Miles said, sleep still in his voice

I was turned on my side until I felt Miles sit up

"What?" he asked

I turned to face him and I sat halfway up

"Are you sure?"

I looked at him

"Ok, thank you very much." he said as he hung up the phone

"What is it baby?" I said sitting up all the way

"My father died..." Miles said turning his head to look at me

"What?" I said

"Yeah, he uh, was sick and died over the night."

"Sick? with what?"

"Cancer...i didn't know. my mom never told me."

I hugged Miles as he stroked my hair. he started to cry. I've never seen him cry like this before.

Miles and his dad had a very bad relationship. His dad was abusive, verbally and physically. he started getting physical with him when we started to go out in high school. he didn't want Miles to date a girl with children cause he thought that Miles would get me pregnant and then leave me. when we graduated and Miles proposed to me, we told his family that we were engaged and his father took him into the other room and slapped him. I saw it and that's when Miles told me that he was abused.

I know that Miles still loved him though.

"Baby it's ok. we will get through this." I said trying to comfort him

"I know. I love you Maya."

"I love you too Miles." I said as I kissed him

We laid back down and I let him stroke my hair as he held me.

~The Next Week~

We had to go to the funeral today. we took the kids with us.

Miles was about to speak,

"Uh hello everybody, I'm Miles Hollingsworth the third. um my father certainly wasn't the greatest man ever, he had his flaws, but I know that no matter what he loved me and my brother and sister. like for example when my sister Frankie married my best friend he told him that if he ever hurt her he would kill him and trust me, he wasn't joking. when my brother Hunter went into the army, he mailed him a letter every week to make sure he was still ok and he Skyped him every day. when I married the love of my life, Maya, he told me that if I was stupid and let her go, I would regret it for the rest of my life, and I did. when I got her back, he told me 'you were an idiot son, don't let her sip away again.' he just didn't want us to get hurt. he wasn't always the most caring and kind person ever but he did love us and was always there for us when we needed him. thank you."

When he was done, he came and sat down next to me again and I held his hand and put my head on his shoulder.

After the ceremony, everyone went back to the Hollingsworth household to celebrate.

I let the kids go and run around while Miles and I sat on the couch in the living room alone together. his mom came up and sat across from us.

"You know your father loved you." she said

"I know. I just didn't love the fact that he didn't except Maya and I." Miles said

"Oh he did except you Miles. he loved Maya too. I remember when Maya got pregnant with Maddie he was so happy. he said that you and Maya would be together for a long time. he was right, you've been together for what 8 years now?" his mother said

Miles just nodded his head, looking down

"When I told him that Maya couldn't get pregnant again, he got really upset. he loved your kids, even Max and Chloe." she said

"Why didn't you tell me?" he said looking at her

I just stayed silent, holding Miles' hand.

"He didn't want you to know..."

"It would of been nice to know."

"He didn't want to tell you because he found out while Maya was still in a coma. he was afraid you would turn your attention to him and not your family. he knew that they needed you and he figured that he would tell you later, he never got to."

Miles stayed silent

"He got depressed. not just because of his sickness but because he knew that you and Maya could never have another baby. he knew that your family was your entire life so he was afraid that you would leave Maya, he knew how much you love her." she said

"He thought I would leave Maya?" Miles asked looking up

"You did it once so he thought you would do it again."

"I would never leave Maya. I love her so much and I love our family. I don't care if she may never have children again, I'm just happy that we have the family that we do." he said looking at me

"Uh Miles there's uh, something that I have to tell you..." I said stuttering

"What is it?" he asked

"I'm..."
