Riley sighed, looking in her closet.

"Why is it that every time we have a stupid decade dance, I can find a poodle skirt or thigh-high boots, but when we have something as legitimate as homecoming, I have nothing to wear?"

Bonnie, who was sitting on her bed, shrugged. "So don't go."

"I have to go, it's homecoming. And so do you."

Bonnie rolled into a lying down position, closing her eyes. "I'd much rather stay home, order takeout and watch movies all night."

Riley scoffed. "Caroline will kill us. You know that, right?"

"Caroline actually has a date," Bonnie reminded her, thinking about her recent break-up. She hated it, but she couldn't be with Jeremy after what he'd done. "Unlike me."

Riley raised an eyebrow. "If this is about not having a date to homecoming, then I should remind you that you're talking to a girl who's been single since she came out of the womb." Both girls laughed, before Riley looked at her sympathetically. "This is about Jeremy, isn't it?"

"No, this has nothing to do with the fact that my boyfriend fell in love with, and made out with his ghost ex-girlfriend, and then lied about it," Bonnie said sarcastically. "The last place I wanna be is at school watching all the couples sucking face."

Riley chuckled and walked over to the bed, lying next to Bonnie. "Jeremy's an idiot."

"I just thought I meant more to him than that," she said, sighing again. Riley turned to face her, propping herself up on her elbows.

"It's not you. It's the 80/20 thing," Riley told her. When Bonnie made a confused face, she elaborated. "When a guy is in a good relationship, he's only getting 80% of what he needs to be happy. So when he sees a girl offering something different, he jumps on it, because he thinks that she's offering things that you're not. Then, when he gets with that girl, he realizes that she's only offering him 20% of what you offered. She's a 20, you're an 80. And when he realizes that, he'll come running back."

Bonnie frowned. "But what if I'm the 20?"

"20 relationships fizzle out quickly, you can't fall in love with a 20. And you, Bonnie Bennett, are no 20."

They smiled at each other, before Riley's phone rang - Caroline's name lighting up the screen.

"The gym is flooded," Caroline said, worry overtaking her tone and forcing her to forget how people usually start a phone call.

"Um... OK... sorry," Riley said, feigning sympathy. Dances were Caroline's thing, and she'd been planning this one for ages. "So Homecoming is cancelled?"

Bonnie perked up hearing this.

"I'm Caroline Forbes, I don't let dances get cancelled," she reminded Riley. "Tyler's moving the party to his house. Bonnie's coming, right?"

"Sure?" Riley guessed, completely unsure.

"Good. She can't stay at home moping because of Jeremy. OK, see you tonight, dress cute!"

Riley laughed at Caroline and hung up the phone.

"Homecoming's cancelled?" Bonnie asked hopefully.

"You wish!" Riley said, standing up to look in her closet once again. "It got moved to Tyler's, and Caroline wants you to come. Plus Elena's going and she's single too."

"She's never single," Bonnie groaned. "She's just waiting for Stefan to snap out of his 'Klaus' phase, it's not the same thing."

"Either way, we're going," Riley said sternly. "Now..." she held up two dresses. "Black or red?"
