A few days later, Bonnie and Riley were sitting outside of a changing room and talking while Caroline tried on a prom dress.
"After all that," Bonnie said softly, shaking her head. "Katherine still has the cure and Jeremy..."
Riley rubbed her friend's arm. "Don't think about it."
"How can I not think about it?" Bonnie asked. "He's... gone."
Riley nodded sympathetically, trying to shake the selfish thoughts out of her head. While Bonnie talked, she had been wondering whether it was better to have a dead ex-boyfriend, or an ex that was sleeping with a she-devil.
At that moment, Caroline came out of the changing room. She was wearing a strapless, red dress that accentuated her figure. The belt of the dress was tied into a tight knot, giving her the appearance of a smaller waist.
"You look gorgeous," Riley said as Caroline smoothed it down, looking at herself in the mirror. She'd had her eye on this dress for ages, and it looked better than she could ever have imagined. Bonnie nodded in agreement.
"Riley, Matt and I are gonna have the sexiest date there," Bonnie told her. Bonnie, Matt and Riley had been planning to go to prom as each other's dates because all of them were single. When Klaus forced Tyler to leave, Caroline decided to join them.
"I love friend-prom," Caroline smiled, hiding how sad she was about the fact that she wasn't going with her boyfriend. "It's exactly what prom should be. Friends and memories."
"Yep, friends and memories," Riley repeated, nodding her agreement. "And, y'know, the impending doom of Silas dropping the veil to the Other Side."
"He has to use me for that, remember?" Bonnie reminded her friend. "And there's no way I'm doing anything for Silas ever again."
A bell chimed, signaling that someone else had entered the shop. The three girls turned to see Elena and Rebekah walk in together – apparently also shopping for prom.
"Hey Bonnie. Heard your mind got wiped, that sucks," Elena said, with no indication that she cared about Bonnie one way or another. Her humanity was still gone, and by the sounds of things, she wasn't any closer to getting it back.
"She's not the only one whose mind got wiped," Riley reminded her. In a way, Elena's mind wipe was even worse than Bonnie's. At least Bonnie hadn't lost who she was.
Elena smirked an un-Elena-like smirk. "Maybe your mind should be wiped next, Riley," she suggested. "That way you won't remember that Elijah left you for Katherine. Pretty dress Caroline."
She changed topic so fast that Riley didn't have time to think of a comeback, let alone get angry about the 'Elijah' remark.
"I know. You helped me pick it out," Caroline reminded her. "Months ago."
Elena looked Caroline up and down while Rebekah stood by her side, not saying a word. "I thought it looked familiar."
Caroline nodded. After a few seconds, the atmosphere in the room became extremely awkward. Riley and Bonnie raised their eyebrows at each other – they were both thinking the same thing. Prom was definitely gonna be a night to remember!

Later that evening, Riley was curling her hair and putting the finishing touches to her make-up. She knew that her three dates were probably already at the prom, but if there was one make-up look that couldn't be rushed, it was prom make-up.
She wore an off-the-shoulder silver dress with a glittered bodice and a thigh-high slit on the left side. Her silver 6-inch heels were hard to walk in, but they met Caroline's standards and that was enough for her.
