I walk through my front door to see my mom grabbing her purse and fixing her hair in the mirror. "Where are you going?"

"I'm going to that group you signed me up for I think it will be good to talk my problems out instead of drink them away."

I run into my moms arms surprising her but she wraps her arms around me. "Thank you mom."

She runs her hands down my head, "No thank you Sam." She lets go of me and smiles. "I should go if I want to be on time."

I nod my head and she walks out the door. I go to my room and pull my phone out I realize I don't even have her number and I just have to wait until tomorrow. I haven't been able to think straight ever since Theo told me about his ex. Who would do something like that I mean it's just wrong in so many ways and most likely illegal.

I lay down and drift off to sleep I need to get my mind off of this.

---

"Honey are you here?" My mom's voice booms from the front room.

I sit up still half sleep. "Yea I'm in the back."

"Okay good it's pretty late and I would be worried if you weren't here." She flops down on my bed and looks at me.

"What time is it?"

She pulls her phone out of her pocket and clicks the button on the side. "11."

"Dang I've been sleep for a long time."

"Yea you have are you hungry or do you want to just go straight to bed?"

"Mom I think you forgot there is no food here."

"I went shopping before I came back. I mean I didn't have a lot so I just got the stuff that we needed most."

"Really?"

"Yep go look."

I climb out of bed and walk to the fridge. I pull it open and see eggs, milk, fruit cups, Sandwich meats and juice. I look on the counter and see bread and microwave noodles, it's the off brand stuff but it doesn't matter it's food.

"Mom..."

"Honey I'm sorry for the passed few years I've been a mess and I should've been acting like a parent instead of making you feel responsible for everything."

Tears start to pool in my eyes and I wrap my arms around my mom and sob into her chest. "Thank you mom."

"Okay honey that's enough crying you're gonna make me cry too."

"Okay."

"I have good news though."

"What is it?"

"I applied for a job the other day and they called me while I was at the store asking if I could start tomorrow."

"That's great mom!"

"I know right but the only down part is I won't be home as much so I won't be able to spend as much time with you as I would like to."

"That's fine how long are your hours?"

"Right now I'm working 9 to 5 but I'm trying to pick up more hours because the pay I'm getting isn't going to be enough to buy food and pay for rent."

"What about the check that's been coming?"

"Apparently they aren't sending it anymore because you're old enough to get a job now."

"But I'm still in high school they can't actually expect me to get a job the moment I can."
