"Sam." My dad stands from the couch and my mom is seated on the other end with tears in her eyes.
"What are you doing here didn't I tell you to stay the hell away form me!" I yell my heart breaking at my mom's tear stained face.
"Sam..."
"No shut up what did you do to her?!"
"I didn't do anything I just told her the truth." He reaches out to touch me but I quickly move away.
"No don't touch me!" I run over to my mom and squat down in front of her and she looks shell shocked. "Mom are you okay?"
"Yea I'm fine honey but I think you need to listen to your father."
"What?! Why he has done nothing but abandon us why should I listen to a word that comes out of his mouth?"
My dad interrupts my mom from answering, "Because I wanted to say I'm sorry." I sit up at this finally the day I've been waiting for. He was finally crawling back. "I had business to take care of out of the city and I had to leave you and your mom behind."
"Oh so leaving us behind means getting a new family too?"
"It was a cover Sam none of it was real."
I furrow my brows and look from my mom then to my dad. "What's going on?"
"Honey take a seat." I do as instructed and my mom pulls me closer to her.
"I didn't want to leave you or your mother but I was an agent and I had to handle some business to make sure you stayed safe and the rest of the country was safe."
"I don't understand. Why didn't we just move with you?"
"Because it was to dangerous for a girl your age."
"But it was fine for the little girl living with you?"
"She was undercover she was the mission we had to protect her because she was already put in harms way."
"I still don't understand."
"There was this gang a long time ago and they're known to work outside of the country. When a girl they needed to kill was found in a couple cities over they dispatched me and another agent to act as her parents."
I looked to my mom with furrowed brows. "How could you not tell me this?"
"Honey I didn't know either. If I did I wouldn't have become such a screw up."
"Mom you're not a screw up."
"I couldn't tell her either but the jobs over she was moved so I came back here."
"I don't know what to say."
"There is still something I need to tell the both of you but this is a lot for the both of you to take in so I'll tell you later. Just process this and I'll be back in a couple of days they're still watching me to see if I'm still in contact with their target. The last thing I want to do is put the both of you in danger."
My head is swarming with questions and I don't know what to say. I watch as he continues to talk but I can't hear anything. He gets up hugs my mom and me then leaves. Everything moves so fast but I'm moving so slow.
"I'm gonna go talk to Sean."
"Okay honey are you hungry?"
"No." I walk to my room shutting the door behind me and slide down it. I pull my phone out and call Sean.
"You miss me already?"
I let out a humorless laugh and shake my head. "Something really crazy happened just now."
