Ok so I have a really large rant and some of it may sound stupid because I'm writing it as I think so my ideas may not be fully connected.
So. I'm fourteen. As all of my friends are. As all of my grade is. And all anyone is saying is how our voices matter. So this being said, over and over, and being told to speak up when we see somthing, has brain washed us into being able to speak our minds regardless of anxiety. It may not be all the time that we say what we want, but it does happen when it counts.
"You have a voice. But you should still respect your elders."
I never said that I would be disrespecting anyone. But everything you tell me is that I shouldn't be afraid to say something. And then you turn around and say things like this. And it makes me afraid.
You always tell my generation that we are the future. We are going to change this world. Yet you don't let us. You make us wait, until we are confused and more scared than we've ever been. You make us wait, through high school and college until we have been brain washed into turning into the people who have destroyed this world.
Your destroying us by silencing us. People act out because you never let them speak. Yeah, we may not always be right, but as you said;
We still have a say
If your wondering, this all stems from a conversation this morning with my mother. The neighbors car alarm across the street will go off in the middle of the night. As you can imagine, that serves to wake me up, along with my sister and sometimes my parents. I'm sorry, but being a high schooler, my opinion is that we need the most sleep. My school has nine periods a day, some 80 minites, some 40 minutes, all exhausting. Not to mention the days some of us have to walk to the CAT building. And some of us even have sports and plays. Now it may seem like I'm complaining, I know people have it worse than I do. But I'm speaking from my point of view, from my school. So I was telling my mom that someone needs to go over there and say something to them. I came up with something short and sweet. "Hey, your car is notorious for going off in the middle of the night. I was just wondering if you could be more aware of this and try to stop it." And my mom looks and me and goes. "You'd really say that?" I said yes, as, although I would love to spew swear words at them, it won't solve this problem. And she goes "And what do you think they would say?" And, reluctantly, I replied "Uhm your fourteen, go away?" And she nodded and smirked.
Look. All I'm saying is that I am in high school now. I should be "changing the world", right? I should be speaking my mind for the better. But I'm not allowed to. You grow up with "Speak up when you see something." "Do what you think is right." Well I'm thinking and seeing and I'm not allowed to speak.
Sorry for the rant, just this topic is probably the one that pisses me off the most.
