"You're out of your damn mind!" Zac shouted.

"I highly advise against visiting your mother in your current condition." The doctor added.

"No she's not seeing her. Am I gonna have to call the prison to have you banned from visiting her?" Zac asked.

"I'm going to see her eventually. Maybe on the day of my high school graduation, if she's even still locked up by then." I said.

"You are to never visit her." Zac said.

"K." I looked down.

"Jordan I'm not kidding!" He shouted.

"Alright fine I won't!" I looked at him. He sighed as I kept looking at him.

"She's not here if that's what you want to know." Zac said.

"Is she at school?" I asked.

"Either at home or at PT. She left yesterday." He said. I nodded. "Oh but someone else is here for you."

"Uncle Cory? Peyton?" I asked.

"Cailyn." He grinned. I sighed.

"Ok." I said.

"Do you wanna see her?" He asked.

"I mean I guess so." I said. He walked down the hall. I looked around. I was just in a row of hospital beds with curtains dividing them. The curtain between my bed and the one to my right was pulled back. The hospital was busy with commotion and phones ringing and doctors being paged. Then Zac appeared around the curtain to my left.

"She's not here but I found someone else, is that okay?" He asked.

"Who?" I asked. He just walked back the way he came without responding. I sighed. Then around that same curtain, Amber appeared. She was sitting in a wheel chair and wearing a hospital gown.

"I thought you went home." I said.

"I did. I had a hard time breathing last night so my parents took me back. My lungs are a little fucked up." She said. I didn't answer. I didn't really want her here.

"You should go." I said.

"Why?" She asked. I looked at her.

"Don't you remember arguing with me and our non verbal break up? Yeah, you should go." I snipped. She grabbed my hand, but I pulled it away.

"Jordan I'm sorry. You know I worry. I was just angry at everyone and took it all out on you, I really shouldn't have. I take back everything I said. It was so fucking stupid of me." She apologized. I couldn't stay mad at her; I was too in love.

"Just never do anything as dumb as that ever again, alright?" I looked at her.

"Alright." She smiled. "Happy birthday!" I groaned.

"I don't wanna hear that." I looked up.

"Why not?" She asked as she rolled the wheel chair over and stopped beside my bed.

"It's my seventh birthday, right, yeah? My last good one was my third birthday. My dad was away for my fourth, fifth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, twelfth, thirteenth, fourteenth, fifteenth, and sixteenth birthday. And of course of the five he did make, I don't remember three of them." I explained.

"I'm sorry Jordan. What about your sixth and eleventh?" She asked.

"My dad got home at five in the afternoon on my sixth birthday so I spent the rest of it with him, still kinda sucked. My eleventh, he was mostly talking to another soldier because my dad's bomb sniffing dog got hurt during a deployment that had ended two days before my birthday." I explained.

"Is there a way I could make this your best birthday yet?" She asked.

"Bring my dad back from the dead." I said.

"Alright. I'm sorry but you know I can't do that." She said.

"Yep. There's no other way though." I sighed. Amber took my hand.

"Hey. Relax, okay?" She said. I sighed.

"You good?" I asked.

"Yes, why?" She asked.

"Because I'm worried about you." I said. She looked a bit uneasy. "What's wrong?" She sighed.

"Okay remember when you told me you and Cailyn spent a whole night talking? Yeah well I did that too." She said.

"When?" I asked without looking at her.

"After our fight..." She said. I laughed. "What's so funny?"

"Both of us spent a whole night talking to Cailyn. We have never done that." I shook my head while smiling. Why was that so amusing to me?

"Jordan..." She placed her warm hand gently on my wrist.

"That just shows something right there. We have never spent hours talking at night. Did she sleep in your room?" I asked. Silence. I stopped smiling and looked at her. "You fucked her." All she did was look me in the eyes. "Amber!"

"You slept with her too!" She shouted.

"Are you fucking serious? You fucking slut!" I snapped.

"Takes one to know one!" She countered.

"Wow, great come back. Did Cailyn teach you that one?" I raised an eyebrow mockingly.

"I actually got it from Eric Faulkner." She grinned.

"Let me guess. That was during your threesome with him and Stacey. Or did you just watch them?" I badgered.

"Oh wow that was a great one. Who taught you to defend yourself, your mom? Wait that was a stupid question, I already know she was too busy beating you up to teach you shit!" Amber shouted. What a fucking mistake.

"You wanna fucking go, Johnson?" I ripped the covers off of myself and climbed out of the bed.

"This is fucking ridiculous we're fighting over fucking Cailyn." She snorted.

"Great. You can have her because I can't handle your shit anymore." I looked down at her.

"You can't handle my shit anymore? That's a bold statement coming from you." She rolled her wheelchair back.

"I'm glad this is settled then!" I shouted.

"Me too!" She said as she began rolling her wheelchair down the hall. I felt freer now. Nobody to tell me they were worried. Why didn't I end things off with Amber sooner?

3 days later

I looked out the window of the car as Zac drove down the highway. The car was silent; no music playing; no words exchanged. I clutched my backpack as if I were afraid of it being taken away. It was just the two of us now; I didn't want my friends to see me be dropped off. I was afraid of getting help, but I knew I needed it. All my friends knew, Zac knew, Peyton knew, and even Amber knew. There was nothing I could do now except fight for recovery. Fight for my life.
