I woke up to Amber moving around. I watched as she paces the room whispering on the phone. She stopped. I rolled over and stretched.
"Hey." She said, putting her phone away.
"Who was that?" I asked. She looked nervous.
"My sister Hayley's roommate. Hayley got drunk last night and she just wanted to let me know since she calls me every Sunday and wouldn't be able to today." Amber said.
"Oh. Sorry." I said.
"Don't be. She gots to Virginia Tech but I still don't see her often." Amber added.
"What time is it?" I asked
"9:05." She said. I sat up.
"Shit." I quickly got dressed and put my clothes in my bag. "I have to go."
"Wait! Can't you stay for a few minutes?" She asked. She made a puppy dog face. I groaned.
"Fine." I put my bag down.
"Yay!" She grabbed a hair brush and started brushing my hair. "Your hair is so freaking thin my god!" She said. I laughed a little bit.
"I know. It's annoying."
"How is that annoying? My ponytails are so thick and yours would be like paper!"
"Yeah okay. I have to go now. I'll see you later." I walked out the door and downstairs. She followed me. I walked out the front door.
"This may be helpful." I turned to see her holding my bag. She tossed it to me and I caught it.
"Thanks." I smiled as I started walking out the door and down the stairs. I slipped out the front door and gently shut the door behind me before walking down the road.
I walked inside my house and headed upstairs. I unpacked and got changed into clean clothes; jeans, black vans, and a dark green shirt with a pocket on the front. My left wrist was covered with my normal assortment of bracelets that covered half of my wrist. I had minutes until mom woke up. Why would I want to be home for that?. I pulled my hair into a ponytail and applied some makeup. I brushed my teeth and grabbed my art bag. I took my notebook out and I hid it under my bed. I walked downstairs and left a note on the table for mom, letting her know that there was cereal in the cabinet. I walked out the door and headed down the street. I saw Oliver waiting for me outside Starbucks. I walked over and heard him laughing as I approached. I smelled alcohol strongly when he was a few feet away from me. He handed me a full flask out of his jacket
"This stuff is terrible. Taste it!" I shrugged and took the lid off. I took a sip and choked it down. It burned my throat. I put it in my hoodie pocket.
"This is what you called me here for? Look, tomorrow is my one month anniversary with Amber and I need some ideas."
"Why would you come to me for love shit? The only girlfriend I ever had wanted me for sex, drugs, and drinks." He said.
"Not sure. Not smart of me to do. I'm gonna go then..."
I sat on my front porch waiting. I wore a plain black dress with lace sleeves that reached the middle of my wrists and black flats. I saw Amber pulling up in her car. I walked over and got in and looked over at her, smiling. She was wearing a black skirt, a white crop top, and gray cardigan, as well as white heels.
"Happy one month anniversary." I smiled and kissed her. Amber started driving. "Where are we going on this magical evening?"
"You'll see." She grinned. She pulled up to the restaurant we first went on a date to. Thank god I didn't eat yet today. Or yesterday at all. She parked the car near the back and we both climbed out. She waited for me and then held onto my hand as we began to walk to the restaurant entrance.
"Classy." I said as we approached the entrance of Bellariva's. It was just a nice Italian restaurant.
"Thank you." She smiled. We walked in and waited to be seated.
"I didn't think it'd be this crowded on a Sunday." She whispered in my ear as we looked around the restaurant.
"That's alright." I said.
"I'm sorry I should've made a reservation." Amber sighed.
"Amber I honestly don't care where we go for dinner or what we do, as long as I'm with you." I enclosed her hand with both of mine and looked her in the eyes. "I love you." I smiled.
"I love you too." She smiled back at me.
"Amber?" The hostess called out.
"Oh that's me!" Amber said. We followed the hostess through the crowded restaurant to a table in the corner. We both sat down and picked up our menus. I was glad that this restaurant listed calories each meal had. I scanned for the lowest calorie item again, which was the spinach ravioli.
"What are you getting?" She asked.
"I think the spinach ravioli, you?" I asked as I set my menu down.
"I'm deciding between the pork chop or chicken marsala." She said. "Pork chop, definitely." She set her menu down as well. A waiter walked over with a pitcher of water in his hand.
"Welcome to Bellariva's, my name is Nathan and I'll be your server tonight. Can I start you ladies off with anything to drink?" He spoke his rehearsed lines as he filled our glasses with water.
"I'll have a ginger ale, please." Amber said.
"Water's fine, thank you." I said.
"And I actually think we're ready to order." Amber said.
"Alright, what can I get you ladies?" He asked as he pulled out his pad.
"I'll have the pork chops." Amber said.
"I'll have the spinach raviolis." I added. He picked up our menus.
"Your drink will be out in just a moment." He said before walking off.
"So are your friends also kinda mad that you've been blowing them off?" I asked.
"I don't care. None of them are really great friends anyways." She sighed.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"Nothing. I'm actually glad to be away from the drama in my friend group. Everyone's just talking about having sex with their boyfriends or parties and drama and it's not fun." She said.
"It doesn't sound fun." I said.
"It's nothing close to fun. So the lacrosse game friday, do you wanna go?" She asked.
"Nope." I said.
"Why not?" She asked.
"I don't wanna go to a sports game for a sport I know nothing about and be in the crowd of students getting drunk and high for fun." I said.
"Alright. Fine." She said.
We walked out holding hands after Amber had paid the check. She kissed me on my lips as we got in the car. I smiled as she began to drive to my house. After a few minutes, she pulled in my driveway and looked at me.
"Yes?" I asked. She kissed me on my lips without responding. This kissed is a long one. I smiled at her.
"Bye. I love you!" She said.
"I love you too." I said as I got out, shut the door and walked inside my house. I closed the door quietly behind me. Mom sat on the staircase.
"Well someone is home late." She growled.
"Oh...yeah...sorry I was third wheeling a date for Tess. She was nervous being on a date with Shawn." Not a lie. Tess and Shawn did have a date tonight, but Carson went.
"Sure. Then why did I see you kiss a girl in our driveway?"
