I couldn't bear to tell Amber I had an abusive mother, so I chose not to. If I did, she would either call the cops, tell her parents, or leave me because my life is so fucked up and she can't handle me. She left a half hour after I told her some of my secrets, leaving me alone until my mother's return. She came home with Marcus, leaving me in my room alone. I was laying in my bed staring at my ceiling. I just wanted to get out and do something. Then I got an idea. I stood up and grabbed leggings and a gray v-neck. I quickly stripped out of my clothes and changed into the new clothes. I slid on my Nike's and opened my window slowly. I unhooked the screen and slowly pulled it inside. I set it down on my bed and sighed. Maybe I could go to Amber's. But I didn't really want to see her again today. Then I thought of something. I picked up my phone and texted my cousin, Peyton.
Me:
R u at work?Peyton:
Yeah but it's really slow today, why?Me:
I'm bored and my mom is with her boyfriend and I'm not allowed to go anywhere.Peyton:
Well sneak out and come over, kid.Me:
On my way.I turned my phone off and stuck it into my waistband of my leggings. I walked over to the window and began to climb out. I slid my feet down the shingles and dangled from the window sill. I jumped down and landed behind the bushes. I walked out quietly and walked around the house. I began to run down the road. My adrenaline was pumping. It had been a while since I saw Peyton. We didn't talk everyday, but we talked often. She was like my second best friend, after Cody of course. She was the only one on my dad's side who kept in contact with me. Her dad, my Uncle Cory, didn't talk to me a ton. I slowed down and breathed heavily as I walked into town. I pulled open the door and walked into Rusty's Ink Shop, the tattoo parlor where Peyton worked.
"Peyton?" I called out. Through the side room came Peyton. Her hair was a new shade of blonde now, instead of the usual platinum blonde bob she had. It was now down to her shoulders. She wore light jean shorts, a white Adidas shirt she turned into a crop top, and all white Adidas sneakers. Her arms and legs were covered in tattoos. She had small gauges in her ears, as well as a septum piercing.
"Oh look, it's the dyke." Peyton grinned as she walked towards me.
"Jesus Christ, the slut is back." I rolled my eyes as she embraced me. I let go of her after a few seconds.
"It's been a while." Peyton said.
"I know." I said. I noticed her eyes moved to my arms.
"What happened this time?" Peyton asked.
"She saw me and Amber kissing." I explained. She nodded.
"I've been saying this for years and you refuse, you should come live with me." Peyton said.
"I'm not gonna refuse this time. My mother doesn't know I talk to you. She'd never think I'm with you. I didn't wanna move in with you if my dad was still around. He would've came home from a deployment and find out I ran away from home and then he'd find out everything and it would just have ended in a messy divorce and me moving to a different state." I explained.
"You're actually gonna move in with me?" She raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah." I replied.
"I'm gonna have to talk to Cailyn first. I don't know how she'd feel about another roommate, but her boyfriend crashes at our place a lot so she owes me one. You're family." Peyton said.
"I'm gonna be in serious debt if I move in with you. How can I repay you?" I asked.
"Seriously? Jordan fucking Miller wants to repay me. Get me some drugs." Peyton grinned.
"Seriously?" I raised an eyebrow. She laughed.
"Hell no! I don't want weed from a high schooler." Peyton said.
"I don't just get weed." I smirked. Her jaw dropped.
"What the fuck do you get then?" Peyton asked.
"Oliver gave me some LSD stamps a while ago. I never used them." I explained.
"Looks like the baby is stepping up her drug game. But if you're gonna live with me, you're gonna need to get a job go help pay rent and bring no drugs into my place." Peyton said.
"Alright." I sighed. Where the fuck did she think I could get a job?
"Well get out of here, get home, and be ready to get all your crap together if Lauren says yes." Peyton said.
"Alright. Cya." I started walking to the front door.
"Bye!" Peyton called after me. I pushed open the door and walked out. Was I really about to leave home? If I did, my mom would kill me the minute she saw me or found out where I was. But she wouldn't find me or where I was. Not that she would really care. Maybe I would get away with leaving home. It's worth a shot.
I stared at my phone screen waiting for Peyton's text. I clutched a duffel bag full of pictures, sentimental items, and other items I kept around my room. I sat on my bed beside Rico. I put his head and kissed him. I wouldn't see him for a while. Peyton got the OK from Cailyn, but was coming to pick me up and help me get my things. On my back was my backpack full of my school things, laptop, and my matchbox full of my blades and the small wooden box I kept my weed and LSD in. At my feet was a suitcase and duffel bag full of my clothes. A text popped up on my phone screen.
Peyton:
Trucks across the street. I'm coming.I smirked and turned my phone off. I stuck it into my pocket and stood up. Rico looked at me.
"I love you Rico." I kissed him on top of his head. He licked my cheek. "You be good for Zac." I sighed. Zac was aware I was leaving, but wasn't too happy about it being a sudden decision. He told me he would make sure our mother didn't find me, and if she did, he'd warn me. I looked out my already opened window and heard the gate slowly creek open. I saw Peyton a few moments later.
"Toss me some stuff." She whispered. I threw down my duffel bags one at a time. She caught them and put them down. I grabbed my suitcase and placed it on my bed beside my window. I walked closer to the window and stuck my feet out. I climbed out and hung onto the window sill. I slid my backpack off my arms and tossed it down to Peyton, who caught it with a grunt and placed it down. I'll be shocked if my laptop isn't broken. I grabbed my suitcase, which was fairly light, and threw it into the bushes. I jumped down and landed by it. I pulled my phone out of my pocket and texted Zac.
Me:
Just left. The screen is leaning against my dresser. Rico's in there. I love you. I'll call you when I get to Peyton's.I shut my phone off and stuck it in my pocket. I grabbed my suitcase and walked over to Peyton and grinned.
"You're a fucking natural at sneaking out of windows. You do it often?" Peyton whispered.
"You know it." I picked up my backpack and slung it over my shoulder. I picked up a duffel bag and Peyton grabbed the other. We left my backyard and Peyton shut the gate slowly and quietly. We walked to her black 2015 Ford F-250. We threw my bags into the bed of the truck and got in. I looked over at her as her truck roared to life.
"I fucking did that." I laughed. She grinned and began driving.
"Let your friends know. If your mom goes looking for you, they'll check with your friends." Peyton said. I nodded. I can't believe I just fucking ran away from home to move in with my cousin.
