the next to do list

chapter eight

The next week was basically the same. I went to the Café, Adrian was there too. He would smile at me every morning but never sit by me. I would walk around for a little and then start my search for a job.

I figured I could try to get a job somewhere in the district because almost no experience is needed. I would walk in stores and see if working there interested me.

After doing that with no progress I would go back home and try to find hobbies. Already I've tried cooking (which I am not good at), reading (which I might actually like but it makes me bored), I've tried googling different stuff and see what else I could do but that just brings up stuff like, sowing or knitting or some boring crap.

I'm pretty sure Rose gets tired of me being in the house all day. So I try to spend my time just walking around town or the district. I've even started working out to pass time.

This morning I went back to the Café.
I sat there just thinking about life in general. I'm not sure how long I sat there because Lucy walked over to me and sat down. I was a little taken back
But she looked at me sympathetically.

"Are you doing ok Mia?"

"Yeah, I'm fine." I was still recovering from shock because me and he never even talked beside her taking my order. "Why do you ask?"

She shrugs

"I don't know. You just look really confused and sad. I thought I would come over and talk to you."

"Well... Thanks."

"So what's on your mind?"

"I need a job and a lot is happening right now. I just need to think about stuff."

"You don't have a job?"

"No, I'm looking right now."

A big grin spread across her face

"You should work here!"

I thought about it. Would I be happy here? It seems like it would be boring Being so repetitive every day... But then what else is new

"Would that be okay. Would your manager care?" I asked and she looked at me puzzled

"I am the manager."

"Oh right," I said embarrassed

I GOT A JOB!

And unconsciously my mind started to slip to Adrian.....

I would get to see him every morning now. I'll probably be able to talk to him too.

Lucy told me when I would start, what my payroll would be soon. It wasn't a lot but Rose makes more than enough for both of us. But I couldn't always live off her. And this job would keep me out of the house.

I didn't stop to walk around this morning and just went home. When I got home it was empty. I texted rose

Really? Well good for you but I've got to get back to my job or I won't have one.

I had extra time on my hands so I decided I would make myself something for lunch. I chose to do lemon chicken because it sounded simple enough. When I was done I was very pleased with how it turned out. It must have been the best thing I've made so far.
