Chapter 30 - Overwhelming

Hayley's POV ||

'So, how's it been?' Kyle asked.

'I,' I sighed. 'I honestly don't know. We haven't spoken a word to each other in about three weeks now. I'm pretty sure that means we're done.'

'Hey' he cupped my face. 'Maybe it's for the best?'

'It just doesn't seem like it' I said as I took a sip of my coffee.

'How's your life then?' Kyle later asked.

'My life?' I chuckled. 'You mean besides not knowing whether your relationship is over or not? And not knowing where your friendship with that person stands'

He gave me a look.

'I know, I know. That came out a little too arrogant. I'm sorry'

'Apology accepted' he smiled. 'But noo silly! I wanna know about your life. Not your relationship or what not.'

'Umm, it's average, I suppose. There have been better days' I said.

'Ah c'mon. You're with your best friend, having a hot beverage at your favouriteeee cafe, in the early hours of the morning. It doesn't get better than that!' He poked.

'Okay, okay! I guess I'm "lucky" to have a certain Kyle to cheer me up' I smiled but it was seconds before it faded away.

'What's bothering you?' He asked.

'It's just .. There's this family thing this afternoon and there's a lunch and stuff and you know how family gets. It's a little overwhelming - as usual.'

'Hey, you could always text me under the table' he smiled.

'Who else would I text under the table?' I winked.

'Here it goes' I said to Charly as we were about to walk in to Aunt Carol's place.

She's Mum's sister. She's rather ... what's the word? Outgoing! That's it.

We walked in to see everyone gathered in the living room.

I guess it'll be easier to list them all out.

Aunt Carol - Mum's second sister.

Aunt Lisa - Mum's younger sister.

Katie - Aunt Lisa's daughter.

Zach - Aunt Lisa's son.

Lesley - Aunt Carol's daughter.

Lester - Aunt Carol's son (AKA Lesley's twin)

Lia Marie - Aunt Carol's second daughter.

Mel - Another cousin of mine, long lost cousin I suppose.

Ally - Also a cousin.

Uncle Dave - Aunt Carol's spouse.

Uncle Rob - Aunt Lisa's spouse.

Well, that's all of em'.

Now do you understand why it's overwhelming?

They were all talking over each other when we walked it. They were so loud they barely heard us come in.

But I'd prefer that over them yelling our names and stuff.

I traced the room and stopped when I spotted Zach - sat on the beanbag in the corner - fiddling with his phone.

'Zach!' I yelled as he looked up.

I ran towards him and gave him a hug without noticing the attention my yelling had gotten.
