Chapter Four
Vanessa's Point of View:
It was now Monday, I was officially starting my second full week of school. I honestly didn't want to get up that morning, I had stayed up way too late the night before, watching my favorite show, Pretty Little Liars.
Groaning before shutting off my alarm, I got up and got dressed. Looking in my mirror, I realized that my hair had curled itself the night before, since I went to bed with it wet. Rolling my eyes, I took the time to straighten all the curls. After my hair was completely straight, I implied some eyeliner to my bottom lids.
Looking at myself in the mirror, I started to feel insecure. My thighs looked huge in the skinny jeans I was wearing, and my stomach looked big in the shirt I had on.
Changing my pants, I wore jeans that weren't skinny. Changing the shirt, I put on a tank top with a blue Aeropostale sweatshirt over it. I was thankful for the chilly sixty degree weather here in Australia.
Finishing getting ready, I decided not to eat, my stomach was big enough already.
Sighing, I went downstairs. I saw a plate of bacon on the dining room table, and it was hard to keep myself away from it.
"Aren't you going to eat Vanessa?" My dad asked, motioning for me to come to the table.
"No, I'm not hungry." I half smiled, hoping they would believe my lie.
"Suit yourself," my mom shrugged.
"I'm just gonna wait in the car," I told them.
"Actually, you have to get a ride to school or walk, because your dad and I have to go somewhere," my mom told me, not looking up from her phone.
"Oh uh, okay." I wondered where they were going. "Where exactly are you going?"
"It's a work thing," my dad answered for my mom.
"But you two work at completely different places," I pointed out.
"Your father is coming with me to this thing," my mom told me, still not making eye contact.
"Oh, well bye." I gave them a mysterious look and walked out.
At the exact same time I walked out of the house, Hemmings walked out of his house. Trying to avoid him, I covered my face and started walking down the street.
"Vanessa!" Luke called.
"Damn it," I muttered.
About Saturday when we hung out, I felt really weird about it. Luke was acting all weird, he wasn't acting hateful towards me. And when he would act hateful, he wasn't serious. I was confused, I wasn't sure if he still hated me or not.
"Ness, stop walking so fast," Luke breathed. I must've been walking fast, because it seemed like Luke had ran to catch up with me.
"Hi," I said casually.
"You've been avoiding me since Saturday, what's up?"
"I'm not avoiding you, I don't have to talk to you. We're not friends," I pointed out, confused about why he was saying this.
"I thought we were trying the whole being friends thing?" He asked.
"Luke it's too awkward. We can't be friends, let's just go back to hating each other. It'll be better that way," I told him, trying to not sound mean.
"Oh uhm, okay," Luke bit his lip. "I'll uh, see you at school."
With that, he walked ahead of me, and eventually, he was out of sight. I sighed, feeling a little bad because I was kind of mean.
