Chapter Twenty-Nine

Vanessa's Point of View:

Waking up to the annoying sound of my alarm clock, I sighed. Today was my first day back to high school, and I didn't want to go. Summer went by way too fast, and school wouldn't be the same without Luke's sarcastic remarks about the teachers.

He was still in school, online to be exact.

It had been a month since Luke left for tour, and I was still missing him like crazy. But, I was getting used to the feeling of not having him here.

Getting snapped from my thoughts, I got up from bed. Wandering over to my closet, I decided what I was going to wear on my first day back to school.

Seeing that it was warmer outside, I picked out a pair of light blue ripped jean shorts, with a purple v-neck. For shoes, gray flip flops.

Being lazy, I decided to put my hair up in a high ponytail, instead of straightening it like I usually would. After my hair was finished, I applied a small amount of eyeliner and mascara.

Seeing that I still had a lot of time to get ready, I decided to call Luke. I had no idea what the time zone was in America compared to Australia, but I thought why not call him anyway.

"Hello?" Luke answered after a few rings.

"Hi," I smiled, even though he couldn't see it.

"Hey beautiful," he yawned.

"Did I wake you up? You sound tired,"

"No, I was actually just about to go to bed. It's almost midnight here." he told me, yawning again.

"Do you wanna to then? I have to finish getting ready for school anyways." I sighed.

"Oh shit, school starts for you today? Well have fun," he laughed.

"Yeah, because school is totally fun," I laughed along with him.

"I'll talk to you later, okay Ness? I can barely keep my eyes open." Luke sighed.

"Yeah, sorry if I bothered you." I frowned.

"You never bother me." He told me, and I could feel him smiling over the line. "I love you."

I blushed. "I love you too Luke."

And with that, the call ended.

Sighing, I finished getting ready, by putting all my school supplies in my bag.

Walking out of my room and downstairs, I saw that Bethany, Kendra, and Addison were sitting in my living room. They were engaged in a conversation with my mom, until I walked up and cleared my throat.

"Hey Vanessa," Bethany grinned, "ready for our first day back to school?"

"Nope," I laughed, and they laughed along with me.

"So do you girls need a ride? Or are you walking?" My mom asked.

"We've decided on walking. That okay with you?" Addison asked, turning towards me.

"Yeah, I'm fine with that." I shrugged.

"Okay, we better get going then." Kendra said and stood up, along with Bethany and Addison.

"Have a good first day of school!" My mom called as we were walking out the door.

My friends said thank you, while I stayed quiet.

Ever since three weeks ago when my mom told Joey and I her news, I'd barely talked to her. I knew I had to talk to her eventually, but I just didn't know what to say.
