Chapter Twenty-Four

Luke's Point of View:

"But you can come with me," I told her, but I knew she was going to say no.

"No," Vanessa said flatly, not seeming happy about my suggestion at all.

"Why?" I asked, starting to feel annoyed with her.

"I can't just pack up my life and go tour around the world with you!" she yelled, throwing her arms up in frustration.

I rolled my eyes. "Why not?"

"Oh my god," Vanessa groaned, "Because Luke, I have a life here. And I can't just leave. I don't know how to explain that to you,"

"It's only six months." I said, trying to reason with her.

"Only," she laughed, but not a happy laugh. It sounded more like a mad laugh, if that even makes any sense. "What would I do about school? I can't leave my friends, or my family."

"I'm sure they would understand why you'd want to leave." I stated.

"But that's the thing. I don't want to leave." Nessa said in a lower voice, trying to hold back tears.

In that moment, I swore my heart dropped to my stomach. Ever since last week, when I told Vanessa that I was leaving, all we'd done was argue. So many tears have been shed within the past week from the both of us, it was like every time we talked, this topic came into conversation. It had been nonstop arguing for the past seven days, and I didn't even know how to handle it anymore.

I opened my arms out, and a second after, Nessa came running to me, burying her head in the crook of my neck. I held her tightly as her body shook with sobs. I kissed her temple, and sighed. "I don't wanna fight with you,"

"I don't wanna fight either. But I don't know how to avoid this topic," she sobbed.

"I know." I sighed, not knowing what else to say.

"I love you Luke." she whispered against my skin.

I half smiled. "I love you too,"

"We should do something," Vanessa stated, confusing me.

"Like what?" I asked, tightening my arms around her.

"I don't know, just something to take our mind off of this." She said.

I smiled. "Okay.. Hold on I have an idea,"

I let go of Vanessa, and put my arms back at my sides. Taking my phone out of my pocket, I texted Ashton, seeing if we could have another one of those bonfires at his house, like we did at the beginning of summer. I'm sure that this would take Nessa's mind off of all this, since there more than likely will be alcohol.

And I knew how she loved a glass of wine every once in awhile.

Ashton texted back, saying to come on over.

As I walked hand in hand into Ashton's back yard with Vanessa, we saw that we were last to show up, and the whole group was already here.

Ness ran over to her friends, who she hasn't seen in the past few days, since we've been sending literally every minute together.

She sat beside Bethany, and motioned for me to come sit in the empty seat on her other side.
