Two men threw me into a cage and left me on the cold, hard ground. Bastards. I tried to push myself up but I couldn't do it. Okay, Kennedy, take a minute. Catch your breath then figure out how to get the hell out. I managed to pull myself up into a sitting position and leaned up against the bars. A bunch of Hydra agents came in with more prisoners.
"You know, Fritz, one of these days I'm going to have a stick of my own," one of the prisoners said.
The agent didn't respond. He shut the door and the agents walked out.
"You shouldn't taunt them," I said, "They don't like it when you do that."
"Oh my God you're a woman," one of the other men said.
I snorted, "Yeah, most days."
"What's a beautiful gal like you doing here?" the first guy asked.
"Rethinking my life choices," I responded, "Here I thought joining the army was a great idea. I was wrong."
Both guys laughed.
"So what's your name, sweetheart?" the first guy asked.
"Kennedy Barnes, you?"
"Timothy Dugan," he said then pointed back to the other guy, "This here is Gabe Jones."
Suddenly there was a loud thud as if someone had fallen over.
"Who are you supposed to be?" Gabe asked whoever was up there.
"I'm...Captain America," came a voice. Next thing I knew there was a very good looking guy unlocking all the cells. The guy froze in the doorway of mine after he opened the door. "Kennedy?" he questioned.
"Do I know you?" I asked. He seemed familiar but I couldn't place him.
"It's me. It's Steve." That's when it clicked. Steve. My Stevie came to get me out, but what the hell happened to him.
I gaped at him, "What happened to you?"
He shrugged, "I join the army! You told me to do this."
"I did not but I'll accept it." I went to move past him.
"Are you okay?" he asked stopping me.
"I'm great. I need to find James."
"He's alive?"
"As far as I know."
"Right," he said. He turned to the prisoners, "Get out fast and give 'em hell. I'll meet you guys in the clearing with anybody else I find." He turned to leave. I was going to follow him.
"Wait!" Gabe called, "You know what you're doing?"
"Yeah," he replied, "I've knocked out Adolf Hitler over two hundred times."
"Miss Barnes?" Dugan called.
"I gotta find my brother," I called back, "Get out." I turned and ran after Steve. We went down a few hallways until we found the crazy scientist guy running away. Steve stopped to look in the room he left. I ran down to the next room where I found James strapped to a table.
"Steve!" I yelled, "Get in here!"
He ran in and started unstrapping James. "It's me," he told him, "Its Steve."
"Steve!" James exclaimed.
"And Kennedy," I pointed out.
"Come on," Steve said pulling him up.
"Steve."
"I thought you were dead."
"I thought you were smaller. What happened to you?"
