***A year later. New York, 1946***

I walked into a local diner and slid into the booth across from Peggy.

"Anything interesting in the news?" I asked.

She looked up from her paper in surprise. "You're back. Wasn't expecting you back until tomorrow."

I shrugged, "Yeah well, we finished up early. Also with what's going on with Howard I had to come back to see what I can do."

"Most wouldn't have," she commented.

I smiled, "Well I am Captain America. Just trying to live up to the name."

She nodded and went back to her paper.

"Sugar, I saw him once at a U.S.O show in Passaic," Angie said reading over Peggy's shoulder. So it was about Steve. That explains why she wouldn't tell me about it. Angie continued, "You can eat him with a spoon."

"Yes," Peggy drawled, "I understand he was quite something."

I smiled, "I could tell you stories about spoons and that man."

Peggy looked at me on horror, "Kennedy!"

"What?" I asked, "I married the man and I was talking about the time I threw a spoon at him and bout took his eye out. Granted that was before he became Captain America."

"Weren't you aiming for your brother?" Peggy asked.

"Yeah," I sighed, "then the little brat moved and I hit Steve. I felt so bad I spent every last penny I had to buy him some ice cream."

"Sounds crazy," Angie commented, "You really did marry Captain America didn't you?"

I nodded, "I did, but I was engaged to him before he was that."

Angie nodded and then looked at Peggy, "Everything all right, English?"

"Fine, Angie, if you don't count work," Peggy responded.

I scooted over so Angie could sit next to me, "Boys at the phone company giving you a hard time?"

"No more than usual," Peggy said, "It's just during the war, I had a sense of purpose, responsibility. But now I connect the calls, but I never get a chance to make them. Do you know what I mean?"

Angie sighed, "I had an audition today, uptown. Took three trains, got two bars into 'Is You Is or Is You Ain't.' They gave me the hook. I guess ain't. We all got to pay our dues, even if it takes a while. You got talent. It's just a matter of time before Broadway calls."

Peggy chuckled, "I'm afraid I can't carry a tune."

"Doesn't matter when you got legs like yours. Even Rogers here could do it."

"Hey," I protested, "I'm too much of a soldier for that. Besides I got a reputation to keep."

"This supposed to be a BLT?" some rude guy exclaimed, "Where's the girl?"

Angie turned to look at him. "Oh, I'm sorry," he snapped, "Do you not work here anymore?"

"Looks like I gotta go," Angie sighed.

"He a regular?" I asked.

"Yeah, but a regular what, I'm not allowed to say. See you two later."

I waved a little before turning back to Peggy.

"So how'd the mission go?" she asked.

"Star spangled their asses," I said with a smirk.

She laughed, "Of course you did."
