***The next day***
I tilted my head as I looked at the wall. It really needed a new color, but the question was which one. I heard some banging on the front door and voices in the foyer. I slowly moved out of the room I was in and into the hall. I glanced down to the foyer to find Peggy hiding behind a plant and Mr. Jarvis talking to some SSR agents. By the sound of it Mr. Jarvis was getting arrested.
"Mr. Jarvis!" I called as I flounced down the stairs, "Is everything all right?"
"Ma'am," one of the agents questioned, "Do you live here?"
I nodded, "Sure do. Mr. Stark was very generous."
"I'm going to have to ask the both of you to come in with us," the agent said.
I glanced to Mr. Jarvis to let him know that it was all right. We both walked out of the house and got into the car. Once we were at the SSR the chief stopped us.
"You boys want to tell me why you have Captain Rogers in custody?" he asked.
"She may know something about Howard Stark," the agent said. This guy seemed to do a lot of talking.
"She lives in Howard's house," the other agent said.
"Very well," the chief sighed. He motioned them off. The two agents lead us down to the interrogation room. The one agent left but the one who liked to talk stayed.
"Captain Rogers," he said, "We'll start with you. Why are living in Howard Stark's house?"
"Well Agent..." I said.
"Thompson," he responded.
I nodded, "Well Agent Thompson, Mr. Stark happens to be a good friend of mine. I'm living in his house because he offered me a place to stay. You see, when I got back from the war I found out that I couldn't really handle living in my apartment by myself."
"And why's that?" he asked.
"Because my husband and brother weren't there. I was haunted by the memory of them. I'm sure you know the feeling, Agent, being a soldier yourself. I had lost my family to that war and I wanted nothing to do with the past. So that's why I'm living in Howard's house. To move on. I don't know anything about what he's up to or where he is. Everything I may need I get through Mr. Jarvis. Are we done here?"
"Yes ma'am," he said and lead me out. He left me in the hall and went back in to interrogate Mr. Jarvis. Peggy came out of the other room.
"Are you okay?" she asked.
I nodded, "I'm great."
She nodded and walked away. A few moments later she was back with some files. She went into the one room and came back out. The chief and the second agent came out after her. I moved out of the way as they opened the door to talk to Mr. Jarvis.
"Chief Dooley," Peggy said, "I'm afraid I mistakenly took your stolen car report."
I smirked at what she had come up with. Nice work, Peg.
"Well," Mr. Jarvis drawled, "If there's anything further you'd like to discuss, please feel free to contact one of Mr. Stark's attorney's."
I gave Peggy a small smile as Mr. Jarvis and I walked out.
Later that night I stood in the foyer of the house with Mr. Jarvis waiting for Peggy to show up. There was a knock on the door.
"Is there anything you want to tell me?" Peggy asked as Mr. Jarvis opened the door.
"Not at present, no," he responded.
"Very well," Peggy said as she walked in. Mr. Jarvis shut the door and we walked down to the room where the vault was. As he opened the door I saw the giant hole in the floor.
