24 hours later I was touching down in New York. I grabbed a cab and went to the phone company. There was no point in going to Peggy's when the doctor was more than likely here at the SSR. Rose let me in without any questions. Every single agent looked at me as I walked in. I was still wearing my uniform.
"Chief Dooley, where is he?" I asked.
They all pointed to the room Dooley was in. I walked back there and opened the door. Every pair of eyes in the room turned to me. Well I found Peggy and Mr. Jarvis.
"Captain Rogers?" Thompson questioned standing up.
"Chief Dooley, I need to speak with you about that doctor that came back with your team," I said.
"Captain, we are in the middle of an interrogation," Dooley stated.
"That doctor, he's not who he says he is," I told him.
Dooley turned to Peggy, "So you got Captain America in on your story?"
"What exactly is going on here?" I asked crossing my arms.
"These two are under arrest for helping Howard Stark," Agent Sousa said.
"Howard Stark is an innocent man, but right now you have bigger problems than whether or not Stark is an idiot or not," I snapped, "Dr. Ivchenko is not who he says he is."
"He was using Morse code to communicate with someone across the street," Peggy said, "The southeast corner of the building, at least 10 stories or higher."
"I saw it too," Mr. Jarvis interjected.
"Well, as long as you saw it, too," Thompson drawled.
"He was discussing some kind of timetable," Peggy told them.
"Timetable?" I questioned.
She nodded, "We have less than 90 minutes before something's going to happen. We can't leave him on his own."
"He's a good man," Dooley stated. "He's done nothing but help us. He has only been here for 48 hours."
"We don't know him," Peggy protested.
"Maybe not," Sousa said, "but we know you."
Dooley sighed, "I'm supposed to believe that you pulled off your own investigation without any of us noticing? Why would you go through all that trouble instead of coming to one of us?"
She glared at him, "I conducted my own investigation because no one listens to me. I got away with it because no one looks at me, because unless I have your reports, your coffee, or your lunch, I'm invisible."
"To you men," I snapped, "We women are nothing more than something to serve you. I have been in here multiple times dressed as a civilian not one of those men out there batted an eye. The minute I walked in here dressed in my uniform I got the attention of every single man out there."
"I apologize Captain," Dooley stated. He turned to Peggy, "Forgive me for not getting all pissy-eyed at your tale of woe, but your track record with the truth hasn't been all that hot. So if all I've got to go on is your word."
"There is one more thing," Peggy said. She pulled out the thing that held Steve's blood. She handed it over.
"You'll want to be careful with that," I said.
Dooley looked at me, "Does this stuff implode, explode, spice up an old fashioned?"
I shook my head and swallowed back tears, "That is the last remaining sample of Captain Steve Rogers' blood. Mr. Stark was afraid your scientists would squander the remaining samples attempting to recreate the serum."
