I froze. I don't have a stereo. The apartment was practically empty. "Oh. Right, thank you," I said.

"Yeah," he replied before going down the stairs.

I backtracked and climbed out onto the fire escape. I made my way in through my open window. I grabbed my shield then moved further into the apartment. I froze when I saw Eyepatch sitting in a chair. I leaned against the wall, "I don't remember giving you a key."

Eyepatch scoffed, "You really think I'd need one? My wife kicked me out."

"Didn't know you were married," I stated. Where the hell was this going?

"There are a lot of things you don't know about me."

"I know, Nick. That's the problem." I flipped on a light but then Eyepatch turned it back off. He indicated for me to be silent then showed me his phone.

Ears everywhere.

"I'm sorry to have to do this, but I had no place else to crash," Eyepatch said. He turned his phone back toward me.

Shield compromised.

"Who else knows about your wife?" I asked.

You and me.

"Just... my friends."

"Is that what we are?"

"That's up to you." All of sudden three bullets came through my wall and through Eyepatch. I looked out the window for the shooter then grabbed Eyepatch and dragged him into the kitchen. Eyepatch slid something into my hand. I looked at it then at him.

"Don't... trust anyone," he whispered. I slid the flash drive into my pocket. I whipped around as someone broke into my apartment.

"Captain Rogers," I heard my neighbor call. He walked around the corner with a gun up. "Captain," he explained, "I'm Agent 13 of Shield's Special Service."

"Keith?" I questioned.

"I'm assigned to protect you."

"On whose order?"

Keith looked down at Eyepatch, "His." He dropped down to check on Eyepatch. He pulled out a radio, "Foxtrot is down, he's unresponsive. I need EMT's."

"Do you have a twenty on the shooter?" some guy on the other end of the radio asked.

I looked out the window to see the shooter running across the rooftop.

"Tell them I'm in pursuit," I said as I smashed through the window and took off after the shooter. I smashed through some office spaces to keep up with him. I crashed through a window, rolled, stood and threw my shield at the shooter. The shooter caught the shield with his metal arm. What the fuck? In one swift move he threw it back at me. I grunted as I caught it. I ran over to the edge of the building to find the guy but he was gone. He just disappeared. I went back to the apartment building and made my way to the hospital where Eyepatch had been taken. About 30 minutes into Eyepatch's surgery Clint had shown up.

"Is he gonna make it?" Clint asked.

I shrugged, "I don't know."

"Tell me about the shooter."

I sighed, "He's fast and strong. He had a metal arm."

Clint tensed next to me. Agent Hill walked in.

"Ballistics?" Clint asked her.

"Three slugs," she answered "No rifling and completely untraceable."

"Soviet made?"

"Yeah."
