"Are you sure we're doing this?" a familiar voice whispered, filling up the tranquility of the room.
"It's fine, it's fine. This won't take long." Another simply stated.
"But what if Tayden comes in? He might get angry with us since we came inside without permission." The first voice said, concern brimming the tone of his expression.
"He may get angry, but he can't raise a finger at me because I am The Heir to the Throne that is worthy of respect. I am your eldest, Jacque." He said reassuringly to the younger one.
I woke up to the sound of squabbling men.
The first thing I see after almost getting killed by a sword again was the glowing chandelier in the dark room I believe to be mine. It must be nighttime.
Also, I saw two princes staring at me quite intently—Prince Eugene Brancen and Prince Jacque Darryl. When I fluttered my eyes open, they did their best to stifle a gasp.
Seeing the eldest and youngest together made me remember our first meeting. Is it weird to say that I actually missed them?
"S-She's awake!" Prince Jacque exclaimed, tapping his brother's shoulder.
"Yes, I can see that, Jacque. My eyes are working fine, thank you very much." Prince Eugene only scathingly answered.
The two were about to continue their conversation when I finally decided to interject.
"What happened to me?"
I tried to sit up and check if I had any injuries, any patches that covered up my chest, but nothing, only the painful throbbing of my head and the aching of my muscles.
"You fainted," Prince Eugene offered to explain. "You shouldn't move around too much. Your body is still undergoing a great strain from the stress you went through this morning."
His words made me recall the nerve-wracking moment the sword aimed towards my heart. My body shuddered, and it's not because of the cold evening breeze.
Confused, more questions began to pour from my mouth. "This morning? Wait, how long has it been since I got knocked out?"
The two looked at each other and then at me.
Prince Jacque loosened his folded arms and let out a soft sigh.
"Well, it was around 9 in the morning... Currently, it's a quarter to 10, which means you've been asleep for around 12 hours." He glanced at the pendulum clock posed at the corner of the room.
My eyes widened as I gasped at the thought, gallingly trying to sink it all in. "12 hours?! I wasted so much time! I could've learned a bunch of information—"
The Heir flashed me a cautioning look. I immediately pressed my lips at the realization that Prince Jacque doesn't know anything about me being a spy.
"Information about t-the Training Field! I badly w-wanted to learn how to fight!" I stammered, vigorously moving my hands in a rattled motion.
Prince Jacque opened his mouth to reply, but his brother cut him off.
"Fortunately, you weren't harmed, that's all that matters." Prince Eugene helped me escape the trap I got myself into. "After you fainted, Tayden did the honors of carrying you back to your room."
A blush crept along my face as I gripped tightly onto the lush blanket.
Does that mean Prince Tayden saved my life? Again?
I remembered our first meeting. The fast-paced beating of my heart the moment the prince wrapped his arms around me to shield me from the sword.
The cruel prince is back at it again, back to confusing me and my feelings, back to messing with my peculiar heart.
