Be careful

Stephen Strange wasn't scared of love.

No, scared wasn't the right word.

He was cautious and kept the extent of his caring hidden away. But if you looked hard enough, past the indifferent facade, past the witty comments and sharps jabs, you could see it.

You could feel the warmness of his soul as he fought will every breath, every heartbeat to protect the lives in this galaxy and fought even harder to protect the ones he loved. (Read: not that he'd ever admit to it)

So when Tony Stark began to break down his walls, he just said: "be careful."

Tony furrowed his brows, turning back around to look at Stephen. "With what?"

Be careful with my heart- not many people can hold it

Be careful or I could fall deep in like with you

Be careful with what you say- I don't want the lies

Be careful when trusting me- I'm scared of hurting you but I know I will

Stephen offered a tight smile, standing. "Just be careful."

He walked away.

Stephen Strange confused Tony.

Strange had smarts and wit to rival his own, always one step ahead and almost never caught off guard.

But there was something more to the man, past what he showed the world. Something warmer, softer. Hidden behind locked doors, in the space between "you idiot" and "stop getting yourself hurt".

The way he would fight until he was near dead so the threat was eradicated. Stephen Strange didn't take losing as an option and would give his life a thousand times to make sure everyone behind him lived to see another day.

However the man was cryptic as hell. Snide comments be damned Tony could only try so hard to put the pieces together.

The tired moments where he would lean into Tony's touch before snapping out of his quiet nature and diverting Tony's attention elsewhere, causing concern and confusion to wash over him.

Sometimes Tony wondered if Stephens naturally quiet, submissive nature was his own or if someone had trained him to be that way. If it were the latter, he'd hunt down the ones responsible for that.

The man always hid away from Tony's affection, longing in his eyes but fear underlining his voice.

Tony wanted to call Stephen his, wanted to hold him and take care of him, desperate to show the man how much he cared. Tony Stark was helplessly in love with Stephen Strange.

No matter how long it would take, he'd be there for the man, waiting patiently until Stephen would give in, find trust in Tony's patient smiles and gentle words.

Tony's never been careful.

Despite Stephens warnings, there could be no stopping the fact that he was hopelessly in love with the man.
