THE COUPLE ATE dinner at a cute little diner that was right by the beach. as they ate their burgers and fries, the two talked and listened to the skins of the waves crashing.
after dinner, daniel and mckinley strolled along the boardwalk, hand in hand. mckinley made daniel stop in the arcade so they could play games for a while. they competed against each other for almost an hour and eventually earned enough tickets for a little teddy bear. "what do you want to name him?" daniel asked mckinley. "let me think about it," she responded sitting down on a bench just outside the arcade.
she was sat there for a solid ten minutes, daniel growing more impatient with every passing second. "have you come up with one yet?" he asked. "hold on, don't pressure me! give me my space," she replied, still deep in thought. "okay okay," the boy responded, leaning back on the bench. he had a feeling he was going to be there for a while.
"i got it!" mckinley proclaimed. "oh my god, finally!" daniel said sighing with relief. "we can name him beary!" daniel's jaw dropped, "are you kidding me? i sat here patiently for twenty. whole. minutes. so you could come up with beary?" the girl pouted, "hey, you know i'm indecisive." daniel shook his head and laughed lightly, "fine, i'm sorry!"
"will you take some pictures of me with beary?" the girl asked her boyfriend with a sweet smile. "yeah sure. give me your phone." mckinley reached into her packet for her phone, only to come out empty-handed. "oh, i forgot it at home. can you take them on your phone?" he shook his head, "no mine's dead sorry."
"it's fine daniel, we should probably get going anyway. it's late and i'm tired." she got up and held out her hand for daniel. he stood up as well and interlocked his fingers with mckinley's. the couple walked back to their car and began the drive home.
as soon as they arrived home, daniel went into the apartment's kitchen and began raiding the girls' refrigerator. "do you have anything good in here?" he called out to mckinley, who was in her room. "um i'm not sure, just check!" she yelled back. just as the girl was about to exit her room, she was stopped by her best friend.
a few hours earlier...
scout had been at her best friend's apartment, along with serenity, waiting for mckinley to get back from her date. she had heard several dings in her friend's room so she went to check what it was. she found mckinley's phone laying on her vanity with multiple notifications on it. scout, who knew her friend's password, unlocked mckinley's phone to see who was texting her.

scout was shocked, to say the least. she never thought her best friend would be one to cheat, especially because she knew how much mckinley loved daniel. choosing not to respond until she knew more, scout decided to confront her friend when she arrived home.
back to the present...
"hey scout what's up?" the girl asked. "i have a question for you mckinley and you need to answer completely honestly, scout prefaced. "of course i will. shoot," the girl replied. "alright then," scout held up mckinley's phone which was opened to her messages to reese, "who the hell is reecie pie?"
