two years later...

MCKINLEY WAS IN THE middle of her second year at the london school of photography. it was october and she had only one class left until she could go home for fall break. reece was picking her up after her last class and then they were both going back to california together. this was reece's first full week with kinley's family and, while they had met before, they had never had an opportunity to actually get to know each other.

kinley trudged to her last class of the day, the only thing keeping her from freedom. the class went on for ages, and she struggled to focus the entire time. her thoughts kept drifting to how much fun she and reece were going to have back home. finally, her professor dismissed them from class a couple minutes early in honor of the break. kin raced back to her dorm and got her backpack ready for the plane. she tossed in her phone charger, a book for the plane, a portable charger, her polaroid camera, extra hair ties, and face wipes. as she zipped up her bag, she received a text from reece that he was waiting in her dorm's lobby, as he wasn't allowed to come up without an id.

mckinley tossed her backpack over her shoulders and rolled her suitcase out of her room. once she arrived to the lobby, she greeted reece with a short kiss. they exchanged hellos and then reece took the girl's suitcase to his car. they began driving to the airport, kinley gushing about her time at school the whole ride. once she finished her story, she asked, "so? how's the new song coming? do you guys have anything yet?" reece shook his head in disappointment, "no, we're all sort of stuck. we can't think of anything." mckinley squeezed reece's hand sympathetically, "it's alright love, maybe you'll find some inspiration on our trip." he kissed kinley's hand and smiled at her, "yeah, i hope so."

they arrived at the airport and went through security. soon after, the couple was waiting in their gate, boarding was meant to begin in the next half hour. kinley had gone to the bathroom so reece was waiting alone. five minutes later, kin returned holding a bag of gummy worms for reece and a bag of hershey drops for herself. reece accepted them gladly, gummy worms being his favorite candy. "thanks kiki!" he told her before beginning to eat. mckinley laughed at his enthusiasm before eating her food as well.

reece and mckinley boarded the plane shortly thereafter. he let kin have the window seat because he knew she loved it. their seat was in a three person set, but no one was sitting in the third seat so they got it to themselves. it began to get dark and the couple decided to take a nap. kinley leaned against the airplane window and laid her legs out onto the other two seats. reece laid on her stomach and put his knees up, as they were too long to lay flat without hanging in the aisle. mckinley played with his hair and lulled him sleep while she herself fell asleep.

the plane was beginning to land when kinley finally woke up. reece had woken up earlier and was still lying on her stomach on his phone. "sit up reece, i have to get up." he looked up at her and pouted, "do i have to?" she flicked his head and said, "yes loser, we're landing." he gave her a mock offended face and stuck his tongue out as he got up, "meanie." she kissed his cheek and sat up as well. mckinley was slightly scared of planes, but only during take off and landing. she gripped the seat rest tightly and avoided looking out the window. she had begun shaking in fear when reece covered her hand with his and placed another around her shoulders. he coaxed her head onto his shoulder and scratched her back to distract her from the landing. "it's okay love, we'll be fine," he whispered into her ears.

finally, the plane landed and the couple exited the flight. they went to the baggage claim to pick up their suitcases, before heading outside to wait for kinley's sister to pick them up. serenity's car pulled up to where the couple was standing and serenity flew out of the car. she tackled her older sister with a hug, "i missed you so much k!" mckinley hugged her sister back tightly, "me too renny," she pulled away, "let me see you! i didn't know it was possible but you've gotten even prettier ren." she pulled away from the hug, a blush coloring her cheeks, "stop it kin!" she gave reece a hug and the two exchanged pleasantries before they hopped into the car.

during the drive, the sisters played their favorite throwback songs and sang them at the top of their lungs. as they neared the girls' house, reece spoke up. "i know i've met your parents before but i've never actually spent this much time with them. is it weird that i'm really flipping nervous?" kinley turned around in her seat, "no it's not love. but you'll be fine! my parents adore you." from the driver's seat serenity agreed, "she's right you know. after you left last time, i had to hear about how great reece was for the next week." reece laughed at that, "okay then, if they like me then i don't have any reason to be nervous." kinley nodded, still facing reece, "you really don't. this week is going to be fabulous." and it most definitely was.
