GEORGE SAT WAITING in a chair, just outside the baggage claim. mckinley had texted him to let him know that they just got off the plane. he estimated it would be another ten minutes before they arrived to his location. he scrolled through his social media to pass the time. he was especially excited to meet serenity in person for the first time. the two had been texting here and there since mckinley had introduced them. from what he could tell, she was a kind, genuine, down-to-earth person, and he wasn't ashamed to admit he had developed a bit of a crush on her.
george was suddenly jerked from his thoughts when he heard a girl scream his name from the other end of the airport. he hurriedly looked up, his eyes soon finding mckinley's. he jumped up from his seat and made his way over to her, the two met in the middle and hugged tightly. "hi kiwi," he told her. she pulled away, scrunching her nose, "kiwi? really?" he shrugged lightly, "i figured if you were gonna keep calling me curious george i might as well come up with a nickname for you. unless you want to stop calling me that." he quickly added. she gasped dramatically, "never!" the two shared a laugh before being interrupted by scout and serenity, who had just finished grabbing the luggage from the carousel.
spotting scout, george let go of mckinley and ran over to the other girl. he scooped her up by the waist and hugged her, spinning around at the same time. scout shrieked with joy at her greeting. when george put her down, scout's cheeks were slightly red, she was grinning, and her eyes were shining. "hi georgie," she told the boy, with another quick hug. "afternoon scout." george's focus drifted to a girl just behind scout. he sucked in a sharp breath, "serenity," he breathed quietly. she was even more beautiful in person, and suddenly, he felt shy at meeting her.
taking over, the girl stepped forward to say hello. she kept it simple, "hi george," she said with a slight smile. george just stared at her, eyes wide, forgetting to reply. ren's hopeful face morphed into one of concern, "george?" she touched his shoulder lightly, "are you alright?" her touch jerked him back to reality, george mentally cursed for making such a fool out of himself in front of serenity. "serenity! hi! yeah i'm okay, just excited to meet you is all." behind them, scout and mckinley shared a smirk at the two's obvious budding romance. mckinley couldn't be happier that her sister had found an amazing guy like george.
"sorry to break up whatever this is," scout interrupted, "but can we leave?" she asked, almost shaking with anticipation at seeing blake again. "yeah, yeah. let's go." george took serenity's suitcase from her and started to walk out of the airport, ushering the girls to follow. george drove the short ride to where the boys were staying that week. he parked the car and told the girls to stay in there until he entered the house. the plan was for him to tell reece and blake that he had gone on a walk. he would go back inside and act casual. five minutes after he returned home, the girl's would knock on the front door. george would yell for reece or blake to open the door, refusing to do it himself.
the plan went smoothly and the girls were waiting on the doorstep for someone to open up. everyone was silent, waiting. the door finally swung open after what felt like forever, revealing reece. at seeing who was at the door, reece stumbled back in surprise, his words caught in his throat. a few moments later, the girls heard, "reece! who's at the door?" blake called from somewhere inside. after not receiving an answer, blake decided to come over and investigate. his curious face changing from shock to joy in seconds. "scout! what are you doing here?" he scooped her up into a hug, not letting go for many seconds.
meanwhile, reece had just recovered from his previous shock. mckinley ignoring what her brain told her, jumped into his arms and squeezed the life out of him. "i missed you reecie." she whispered in his ear. "me too kiki, me too."
