MCKINLEY STOOD IN front of a door she had gotten so accustomed to opening without a second thought. this time was different, she was in a fight with scout. she couldn't simply enter her apartment without knocking. it saddened her that their relationship had degraded so much so that she needed to work up the courage to knock on scout's door. mckinley hoped to repair their relationship today and bring it back up to what it used to be.
she hesitantly rapped the wooden door twice and stood there, waiting. mckinley heaved a sigh of relief when the door finally swung open. "kin!" scout said, "i wasn't expecting you. is everything alright?" the girl nodded and, unable to contain herself, she threw herself at the brunette standing in front of her.
"i'm so sorry scout. i overreacted, you just assumed what seemed obvious from the situation," mckinley mumbled into her best friend's shoulder. "mckinley, no," scout said pulling away from the hug.
while she appreciated the apology, scout knew the whole situation was really her fault. "i had no right to snoop on your phone or assume that you would ever do something like that. i know you would never cheat on daniel and i'm so incredibly sorry for ever thinking you would."
"it's okay scout, i forgive you," mckinley reassured the girl. "but you shouldn't! what i did was inexcusable and i'm going to do everything i can to build up your trust in me again. until i do, i hope that we can still be best friends," scout said. mckinley nodded, unable to speak due to the thickness in her throat.
"i love you so much scout juliette finemoree," mckinley whispered through her tears. scout pulled her into another hug, "i love you more mckinley liberty adams." mckinley shook her head and mumbled, "impossible," into scout's shoulder.
