MCKINLEY YAWNED AS she made her way over to the kitchen. she had allowed herself to sleep in that morning and, unfortunately, didn't get to say goodbye to scout before her date with blake. she woke up to a text from her sister saying she and george had gone out to a record shop and would probably eat lunch out as well. meaning, that she was alone at the house with reece and only reece. as she neared the kitchen, she hid behind the wall and peeked out to see if reece was there. her entire face blushed as she noticed him looking directly at her. he chuckled at her entrance and asked, "what are you doing?" she coughed a little to hide her embarrassment before muttering a quick "nothing."

"do you want anything for lunch? you kinda slept through breakfast." mckinley nodded, "yeah i'm starving, have you eaten yet?" the boy shook his head, "no, i was waiting for you." kinley blushed again. "before we eat though, i need to talk to you about something," reece gestured to the chairs by the kitchen island. mckinley plopped onto one of them, reece scooting into the one next to her. "what do you need to talk about?" she asked, the curiosity apparent on her face.

reece was silent for a moment. he took a deep breath before speaking. "mckinley adams, i like you. i like you a lot. and i know you like me too so don't even bother denying it. but you're scared of another relationship, i get that. and so i'm fully prepared to wait for you for as long as you need. i just thought you should know that." without giving her a chance to respond, reece began getting out of his chair and preparing to make lunch. kin quickly caught hold of the boy's hand, "reece, hold on." he turned, a spark of curiosity in his eyes. "i'm not sure i'll ever be ready. it's not the actual relationship that i'm afraid of. i know that if you and i were to ever date it would be amazing," she paused for a moment, smiling at the thought of being reece's girlfriend. "but i know that if i ever went out with you, i'd find some way to mess it up, just like i did with daniel. and i can't hurt you the way i hurt him, i can't do it again."

"but how do you know you'll hurt me?" reece held both of mckinley's hands in his own. "because the fact is that you don't. you can't live your life in fear of something you haven't even tried yet, because then you'll never know how great it can be. how great we can be. and even if we hurt each other somewhere down the road, we'll get through it. i know we will. you know why?" he asked. kinley shook her head, completely absorbed in reece's speech.

he leaned in close to her, "because it's you and me, kiki. i trust you more than anyone else, you've been there for me in ways no one else ever has before. the way i feel about you, i've never felt this way before. because, damn it mckinley, i think i'm in love with you." reece's breath stalled at his inadvertent admission. kinley's breath caught and her eyes filled with tears and when she whispered, "i think i'm in love with you too," she knew it was the absolute truth.

reece's fingers glided over mckinley's face, wiping away the tears that were falling. they leaned in closer to each other. so close that their mouths were only a hair's breadth apart from each other. before he could kiss her he asked, "mckinley, will you go out with me?" she nodded, "yes, of course i will," before closing the distance between their mouths and sharing their very first kiss.
