SCOUT SHOWED UP AT mckinley's place, carrying target bags filled with snacks for the group to eat that night. she went to the kitchen to drop the bags off and saw kinley at the table. "hey kinny pop, what's up?" the girl turned to scout and smiled, "hey cookie, i'm trying to come up with stuff for us to do tonight but i can't think of anything." scout's eyes lit up at the idea of planning their night. "okay well, let's brainstorm," scout sat down next to her friend at the table and thought for a moment, "ooh, okay i know! we can bake cookies or, or, brownies or something!" "oh! and we can build a fort and watch disney movies!" kinley chimed in. scout laughed, giddy with excitement for the night they were about to have, "and i bought tons of snacks from target for us to snack on all night!"
the girls' excitement tapered off as they realized what this night really was: a goodbye. they wouldn't see the boys for a long while after tonight so they had to make it count. snapping out of her sad trance, kinley told scout, "hey, no. we are not going to be sad tonight. this is going to be a fun night and we cannot let any crappy moods ruin it. got it?" scout nodded, "yeah, and it's not like we're never gonna see the boys again. this is only goodbye for now. so tonight is only sunshine and smiles." standing up, kinny echoed, "right, sunshine and smiles." the two spent the next hour readying the apartment. they gathered the ingredients for chocolate chip cookies, put out extra pillows and blankets in the living room, rented a bunch of old disney movies, and set out the snacks and games on the counter.
just as they placed the finishing touches, someone knocked on the door. the two shared an excited look, before hurrying to open the door. the boys entered and, after everyone saying their hello's, put their overnight bags on the couch. "kiki!" reece called from the living room. "just a sec!" she yelled back from her bedroom. kinley quickly hid the goodbye presents she had gotten the boys in her pocket, before returning to the living room. "okay so me and scout kinda planned out the whole night with tons of fun stuff," kinley began telling them. stepping in, scout started talking, "we're gonna bake cookies and build forts and watch movies and oh my gosh am i excited!" blake stared at the beaming girl with complete adoration. he stood up, held his hand out to her, and told the whole group, "then we should probably get started."
