Cold

The wind whips through my hair as we trudge up this steep hill. Who knew that these hiking boots would come in handy. The cold air bites shrewdly at my exposed skin. Making me shiver slightly underneath my windbreaker.

She walks slightly ahead of me. Determined to get up this hill. Her protected feet pad against the hard earth as she joyfully walks on. The wind moving past her red windbreaker. I don't know what it is with her, but every time she's outside in nature, she becomes a kid in a candy store. It's quite adorable.

Alaska is really beautiful this time of year. The sky looks like there's a blanket covering the earth and the trees are as green as emeralds. I can hear him panting behind me, which causes me to turn around and giggle at his exhausted state. "You're going to have to keep up."

The shrill air has made her nose turn pink. She looks so innocent and happy. Her joy is extremely contagious, especially when it's tied in with that laugh. "I'm not like you." That makes her laugh some more.

I turn back around, laughing harder. He's cute when he's exhausted. The top of the hill over looks the entire Alaskan terrain. It looks like it stretches for miles on end. So vast and so broad.

We finally make it to the top and I place my hands on my knees. As I pant heavily, I watch her. She scans the view in front of her with wide eyes. So curious as to what lies beyond. An adventurer at heart. That's what makes her so fun.

In the corner of my eye, I see him stand up straight and walk right behind me. I turn my face in his direction, but I stop before I meet his eyes. I find a small stump to my left. I giggle and point at it. He looks at it with a smile and places his hands on my waist.

I lift her up onto the small stump and she screams playfully. I laugh at her response. Once she plants her feet on the stump, she slowly turns around to face me. The smile on her face finds a new home on mine. She places her hands on my shoulders. She's now taller than me. This is new. I'm usually the tall one.

I love the height difference now. I never get to be taller than him. I pat his head with my palm and he gives me shocked expression, making me laugh harder. A gust of wind suddenly makes me shiver violently. His smiles fades to concern.

"Cold?" I push my hands under the fabric of her windbreaker and place them on her bare waist. I step closer to her.

"Very cold." Although, I kind of contradict myself. I felt this immense heat from his fingers being positioned on my waist. I don't think he really knows what he does to me. He awakens every fiber of my being, unintentionally.

I step closer to her. My head is at perfect height with her chest and I wrap my arms around her lower back. Her hands go to my hair. I feel the air go through her windbreaker, causing me to hug her tighter.

The gesture makes my heart whirl. He placed his entire body on me so I can be warm. I lower my head until my lips come in contact with his forehead. I can feel him sigh under me. I close my eyes, embracing his warmth. I thread my fingers through his hair. Feeling his curls slip through them over and over again. Lightly massaging his scalp, earning a groan from him.

Once her lips leave my forehead, I turn my head so the side of my face rests on her chest. Not knowing what I had done, I start to hear her heartbeat. What better sound is there? It's better than any piece of music you could ever hear. Sure, music is great, but nothing compares to the sound of the love of your life's heartbeat.

My chin rests on top of his head. I look out into the view once more. What a beautiful day. Nothing can compare to this. Absolutely nothing can beat a moment as pure as this and go this long without being interrupted. I am truly blessed that I have him. Really, I owe everything to this man. Everything.

I lift my head from her chest without closing my eyes. I turn my face towards her and I can feel her lower down her head, touching my forehead with hers. This is it. This is the one thing that I will cherish the most in this life. This giggling, pink-nosed, cheery-eyed girl is it for me. And I am so okay with that.
