Red, Black and Purple pt. 5
Light pours through thin curtains, waking me from slumber. My eyes squint at the billowy sheets moving slightly as another cold breeze rushes through them. Chills go down my bare arms and legs, making me curl into my side. My gaze travels back to the curtains. The sound of the crashing waves of the Portuguese shores invades my ears. Another breeze strikes the thin material hanging in front of the window, revealing me the scene outside, just a glimpse. The deep blue sea still circulates the same violent, and yet at the same time, peaceful movements towards the shore. The curtain close again, only to be pushed apart again. The scene is different now. A figure stands at the cliff, looking down at the shore below. He wasn't there seconds before and before I could ask myself the question of who he is, I figure it out. His messy mop of hair flops up and down on his as the wind tosses it in the air. I rise from my bed, wrapping my night-robe around my nightgown. I approach the large window, peering down at my betrothed next to the cliff. He's standing in the sun. I thought vampires cannot do that. He should be burning up right now, but instead he stands proud under the sun's rays. I reach out and push out the windowsill further. Poking my head out of my room, I spot vines growing up the walls of the castle. I extend my hand to them, "Resurgemus."
I hear a crack behind me as I stand in front of the cliff, and I turn quickly to see what it is. Wow, I'm impressed. My fiance stands on the edge of her bedroom window, only in a thin white robe and a night gown, using her powers on the mangled vines that stretch across the stones of the chateau's to create a stair case from her window to the grass below. I stuff my hands in my pant pockets as I watch her descend with bare feet. Her eyes find mine for a mere second and then, they move quickly to lock themselves on the horizon. I smile to myself. She's still shy to make eye contact with me. It's quite hilarious. She would use her powers and try to intimidate me, but she still cannot hold my gaze.
My feet pad against the grassy lawn as I walk towards the cliff. I avoid his crimson eyes as I make it to his side. His gaze burns into the side of my face as he turns to me as I stop beside him. I stare at the ocean in front of me and he stares at me with his hands clasped behind him. In the corner of my eye, I can see the movement of his lose dress shirt. It might have been the same one from last night. The night we danced. The night we stared into each other's like we were the first ever beings on earth. Then, he pulled away from me with no explanation as to why he held me that close to him for that long. Maybe that's why I am down here in the first place. Maybe I want to find out what that was.
"Careful, princess. You starting to make me think that you enjoy my company now." I smirk at her and she only scoffs.
"You need not worry, Your Highness. I am only here on the basis of curiosity." Suddenly, I feel his cold fingers under my chin, turning me to look at him. My body lights up at the touch. It's small but prominent. Gentle, but demanding. My eyes collide with his red ones. He smiles at me again. This time exposing his jagged teeth to me.
"Pray tell, my darling. What are you curious about?" My thumb runs over her bottom lip and she puddles in my touch. Her body quickly stiffens when her beautiful multicolored eyes settle on mine. I rip my touch away from her, waiting for her to answer.
I can't say it now. I cannot ask now. Those handsome eyes are tempting me too, but I cannot get myself to. "How can you stand under the sun?"
I cannot lie. I'm a little disappointed at the choice of question. My fingers fly to my sleeve, rolling the material up my arm, revealing to her more skin and the hex inked there on my forearm. Her pretty orbs go wide at the symbol. Her fingers lightly touch the surface and for the first time in a while, I feel warmth. It's intoxicating. I want to feel more. She rips her small touch from me and I groan audibly. She doesn't notice thankfully.
"How did you get this?" This is a complicated hex, so he had to have a powerful mage conjure it.
"One of your ... well, your mother's general's was captured after killing a vampiric war hero. He gave me this in exchange for his life."
"Why just you?"
"I was the one that captured him."
"Oh." I change the direction of my gaze back to the ocean and so does he. We stand together just watching the ocean in complete silence. Until I free his cold fingers again. I quickly look down to find that his fingers are grazing against my knuckles. It's a light touch, but I sense that there is more meaning behind it. I look up to his blood red eyes, which concentrate at my hands below him. I chuckle to myself, "What are you doing?"
"You feel ... warm." I can't describe it any other way. My fingers find their way into her palm and I pull her limb upwards until she hold it out in front of her with her palm face towards the sky.
"Warm?" What does he mean by that? Does he only feel ... cold?
"Yes." My finger thread through hers and heat permeates through my entire hand. "I have not felt it in so long." I want more.
Chills go down my spine at his words and my instincts react for me. I release myself from his grasp and turn on my heel. I march towards the ivy stairs, but I run into something before I could. His body blocks me from my path. His cold hands wrap around my shoulders. I stare up at his pale, handsome face and freeze. He's so close to me. Just as close as when he danced with me. His chilling words find my ears.
"Why are you running?" Her heartbeat quickens. I can hear it. It's so loud, it's practically booming out of her chest. I dip my head down, closer to her face.
I'm frozen. He's beautiful complexion can make hold me here forever. The scary thing is I do not know if I would mind it. "I am not." He whispers in a low voice as he press his cheek into mine to direct his statement into my ear.
"Lying is not a wise thing to do in this moment, love. I can tell when you are." The skin of her cheek heats up mine and I close my eyes at the contact. Why does she have this effect on me? Does she know?
"How do you know?" He has to be bluffing. His hand tighten on my shoulders, making me move closer into his chest. My hands fly up to press themselves against his chest. One half of my right palm brushes against his bare skin and I hear him groan into my ear.
"I can hear your heartbeat." Her hand on my chest inflames the area. It's arousing. I have to stop now. Truthfully, because I do not think I can handle her rejection. I should just stop myself. Her heart picks up again and I choose to focus on that. "Do I make you nervous, X?"
There's no use in lying. Not when he is this close and can tell when I am lying. However, I can't even get myself to say the word, so I nod instead.
"Why?"
"I don't know." My chest tightens and I feel him smirk against my cheek.
"Liar."
And with a blink of an eye, he was gone. Left me out here in the cold of the morning facing his family home. For some odd reason, I feel like crying without his touch. He ripped it away from me too quickly and I feel as though I cannot recover. My body falls to the ground from the lack of support. My legs feel like jelly on the grassy field. What is he doing to me?
She feels for me. I heard it. She cannot lie. She feels for me ... and I feel for her.
