Mysterious Creature
The pail in my hand continuously gets heavier with every elderberry that I drop into it. The long skirt they gave me to wear keeps catching tiny branches of the low bushes that have grown just above my ankle. Stepping in between them with my leather sandals, I pick berries by the handful and throw them into the pail. I stand, straightening my back, gazing out to the field around me. Other pickers have gathered in the field with their pails trying to take as much food home as possible. My hand goes up to massage my exposed shoulders. The off-the-shoulder blouse is not doing me any justice protecting my skin from the sun. I spot Mana on the other side of the field. Her jet black hair is easy to spot with the star at full height. I should go ask her for the sunburn ointment in advance. I know very well that my pale skin is going to burn eventually. Behind her, I see her husband, Baraka, approaching. He was sent here, as an Asgardian soldier, to protect me. He introduced me to his wife the second I stepped foot on Vanaheim. For some reason I know not, she cannot leave and he had to find work. So, here he is. Protecting me and his wife. A stranger and the love of his life. It makes me miss mine. He takes her pail that is full of berries and trades her a fresh new one. He says something that makes her laugh and I decide not to bother her. Using the back of my hand to wipe the sweat off my brow, I bend down once again continuing my task. Picking one by one and placing them into the pail, my back aches with exhaustion.
"Hello, love."
Suddenly, a familiar voice floods my ears. I shoot back up and my eyes go everywhere. No one is on the field. I look back to where Mana and Baraka were and they have disappeared. Fear initially freezes my body, but as soon as I blink, a figure appears in front of me. Standing a few feet away, wearing a green shirt and long black pants with his signature long black hair, is Loki. My body changes from tense to relaxed and my eyes fill with excitement.
"Did you miss me?"
His voice sounds from behind me and I quickly turn to see him there. Still too far from me, I take a step towards him. As I do, his body separates into various clones of himself. A typical trick. A needle in a difficult haystack. It's my job to find him. His bodies circulate around me. Trapping me in on his own little game. I smile at each individual one, and they smile back with their devilishly handsome grin. "Now, now, Loki. Enough with your schemes." I close my eyes and extend both my hands. Concentrating, trying to find him. I close my fits and breathe out, "Come to me." I pull my fists into my chest. A gust of wind hits my back and I know that I have succeeded. I feel his upper stomach press against my shoulder blades and I open my eyes. My gaze directs upwards and his face comes into my view above me. His smirk and loving eyes intrigue me as he places his hands on my bare shoulders. His touch is intoxicating and I need to feel more. My hand flies up to the back of his neck as I try to force him to lower his lips. He doesn't budge, but at least I get to thread my fingers through his hair. It's enough for now. "I missed you." His hands slip down my back, carefully trailing his fingertips, and creating strands of goosebumps to go down my spine. They landed on my waist and before I knew it, he had turned me around to face him. His nose falls parallel to my nose and his lips ghost over mine. I smile at his actions. His hands grasp my waist tighter. A groan leaves the back of my throat.
"My mysterious creature."
I laugh at his pet name for me. His lips touch mine, but it's no kiss. He's teasing me, trying to get me to lean into him. I give in for once, leaning in to kiss him. His lips are sweet on mine. A warm feeling erupts inside me as he pulls me closer to him. A feeling that I had not felt in too long a while. There isn't anything like it.
"No!"
Another voice interrupts us. And as I pull away from my love, I see a bolt of lightning strike us both. My eyes fly open and I'm back in the spare room of my deceased father's home.
AN: This is an excerpt from my new book called 'Odindittir'. It is about the story of Angrbodda Odindittir and her search to find her identity as well as the love of her life, Loki, after Thanos' death. She ventures to Earth to find his possible location from Thor, but is met with her new family and a possible love triangle with a certain Winter Soldier. Feel free to check it out if you are a Marvel fan!
