Children of Gods
The only thought that enters my mind is "dead man walking". How can he be the person everyone makes him out to be. All of the King's children are powerful, but they said that this one used the skies without even knowing who he is. With power and inexperience like that he will be dead before he can see any sort of battle. He approaches the courtyard to meet the rest of his brothers and sisters in front of the largest house on the grounds. I emerge from mine and walk a few steps onto the porch. To my left, I see Percy and his brother, Tyson, lean against their front door frames. All three of us stare down at the new son of Zeus.
"So these are all sons and daughters of Zeus?" I question my guide to my left. He nods as I turn to view all of them. There has to be at least 50 of them. I wonder if they had the same upbringing as I did. Some women move behind their siblings to walk down the steps of their large house. I recognized them in my dreams. They form into a line in front of me. One opens their mouth to speak,
"Welcome home, Joshua."
Another speaks up,
"We would introduce ourselves, but we are under the assumption that you already know our names."
I look down the line and before my brain can catch up, I walk to the woman all the way at the end. They all wear similar garments, but this woman holds a book in her grasp and at the sight of that I know her name. "Kleio." She smiles and I move down the line. The next woman holds a flute in her hand. "Euterpe." She nods and I move on. The next one holds a comedy mask, "Thaleia." The next one holds a tragedy mask, "Melpomene." The next one holds ballet shoes, "Terpsichore." The next holds a journal with a heart imprinted on the leather, "Erato." The next holds sheet music, "Polymnia." The next holds a telescope, "Ourania." Then, the last one holds a journal with a sword imprinted on the leather, "Kalliope." She smiles and steps closer to me,
"Welcome, brother. We are the ambassadors of our shared father, Zeus. After the rest of your introductions, we will escort you to your room and our training rooms."
My guide touches my shoulder and points to the house next to my siblings'. The house connects to the water front of the camp. I can only guess who's house this could be. The trident displays proudly in front of the water-front cabin. Leaning against the main door frame stands a man and a beast. The man stands and walks down the steps of the porch. He extends his hand out to me. I take it as he speaks,
"Hey, Percy, Son of Poseidon."
I smile to him as he turns back to the house once he noticed that the beast hasn't come out of hiding. He signals him forth.
"Come on out. He's not going to hurt you."
The large beast emerges out of the dark into the daylight and down the steps towards me. I stare up at the one-eyed creature. He extends his hand,
"Tyson, Son of Poseidon."
I smile at him and shake his hand. He steps back to his brother. Percy smiles at me once again.
"We'll see you again once we get to some training."
My guide points me towards the jaded house at the end of the row of houses. Its almost completely black and if you looked through the windows you would see almost nothing within it. I'm confused. Who's house is this? I approach the steps and I find a dark figure standing in the darkness of the porch. Their face not visible to me. I wait for it to ascend down the steps, but it stays stagnant. Percy yells to my right,
"Melinoe."
The figure slowly twists its head toward Percy. If I could see this person's face, they would probably be giving Percy a deadly glare. The head twists back to me and then takes a step down. It's a woman. She wears a long white skirt with a black tube top. Her arms, chest and bare feet display various jagged scars that sprawl all across her body. My eyes are quick to her face that seems to be protected by silver hair that flows down to her hips. She slowly steps closer to me, even closer than the others. I hear Percy start to panic,
"Melinoe!"
Her eyes are displayed to me when she stops almost centimeters away from me. One black as soot and the other white as paper. I've never seen anything like that. They study my face like their trying to figure something out. She speaks in a smooth low voice,
"I will stop, Percy, when I see it fit." I bring my arms up to Joshua's head. I close my eyes and he screams out. I hear Percy call out my name again, but I'm already there. In his head, watching his past. The images of him as a child in a small home with a woman who wasn't his mother. Adopted, they don't know where he's from. Images of him at school, getting picked on by various older children. Then, the memory that seems to be playing on a loop in his head. Him, on top of a parking structure, summoning all of his strength from the skies to defend the woman whom he called mother, who was being attacked by an unknown man. The lightening struck, rendering the man unconscious. He is the son of Zeus. My eyes open to find his. He had stopped screaming and was panting in front of me. His breath hitting my face. That's new. I take my hands off of him. "I had to know." His eyes study my face. That's also new. I turn on my heels and walk back to my house.
She walks away from me as I still pant heavily. I am so confused. What the fuck did she do to my head? She turns around again.
"Oh." I bow to the new boy. "Melinoe, Daughter of Hades."
After that, she turns and walks back into her house. I look to my right to find Percy leaning against the porch by his elbows with a smile spread across his face. I look to my sisters, all wearing a similar face of shock. I look to my guide, who's jaw is on the floor. "What just happened?"
"How did you do that?"
"Do what?"
"Stay awake the entire time she was in your head?"
"She was in my head?" I look towards the old house, only this time her looming presence was no longer visible.
"You should know, brother, that every time Melinoe gets into someone's head, the host blacks out due to the pain. You screeched out for a few seconds and stayed awake the entire time."
I still stare at the house and realize something. "Where are her siblings?"
"She has none."
I look to Percy again. He stands from his earlier position, smiles bigger to me and walks into his house with his large brother following close behind. I look back to the house. She is just as lonely as I was.
AN: I only know what happens in the first and second books, so don't get mad at me if I left some characters out. Plus, this is a different story in the same universe of Percy Jackson.
