Everything Stops

The bench is cold against the skin of my legs. The hard wooden backboard presses against the material of my sundress. The hot sun seeps into me as the warm breeze of the beginning of spring moves through my hair. What a beautiful day. The only thing that will make it better is if he was here, enjoying it with me.

My body mimics the hectic movements of the tour bus. My head moves from side to side as the bus goes over a bump in the road. I clutch my phone in my hand. I haven't talked to her in a while. If you define 'a while' as a couple of hours. I go to my contacts and find her name. I hesitate. I try to sift through her schedule in my head. I don't want to call her and have her not pick up due to her being in a class. That would put me in worse mood. I press down on the call icon.

And at that thought, my phone starts to ring. I search my bag for the device. Once I found it, I see his name appear on the screen. I quickly pick it up. "Hello?"

I sigh in relief, finally hearing her voice. "Hi." I lean my head back on the seat.

I smile at his beautiful voice. "Hi."

"I already said that."

"I know. I'm sorry." I smack my forehead with my hand. Laughing.

"It's okay."

The silence that followed calmed me. "How are you."

I stare out the window, at the fast moving cars travelling beside the tour bus. "Could be better."

I close my eyes at his words. They pang against my stomach. "Where are you heading to now?"

"Cologne, I think."

"Cool." ...

... "I miss you."

"I know, me too."

"I wish you decided to come with me."

"I know."

"I get it though. You didn't want to take a year off. I know it's important to you."

"Thank you for understanding." I see something move to my right. I look to find Teddy walking up to me with her arms open. I quietly embrace her and mouth to her that I'm on the phone with him.

"I - I really want to tell you something and I really don't want to say it over the phone, but it has hanging over my head and I know that we started this a little too fast, though I knew this the second I asked you to come with me."

He starts to ramble and suddenly I'm panicking. "Whoa, whoa, what are you talking about?" I look at Teddy and her frightened expression.

"No, it's just - okay, let me talk, alright?"

"Okay, but you're scaring me, Shawn." I look back at Teddy. She mouthing to me, "what is he saying?" I wave her off.

"It's nothing scary. Well, I don't know how you would take it though." The bus slows and the driver tells me that we are at the stop. Everyone in the bus starts to get up. I jump out of my seat and make my way towards the exit. Don't want anyone to hear what I'm about to say. Stopping right before I have to step down, eyes on my feet.

The bus comes to stop in front of us. I'm really panicking. "Now you're really scaring me."

"I - I love you."

Everything stops. Tears forming in my eyes, not tearing them away from the entry of the bus. "You, what."

I need some air. I step down and the doors open revealing beautiful Cologne. My phone still pressed up against my ear. Eyes wandering and they land on her. Everything stops. I can't move. She's wearing a yellow sundress that ends right above her knee, shoulders exposed, hair wild. I see her take her phone off of her ear and end the call. The noise bounces within my head. Her expression is nothing, but cheerful. She lets out a slight chuckle as a tear falls down her cheek.

He's nervous, I can tell. To relieve him of his anxiety, I end the call and flash him a huge smile. He said it. He finally said it.

I push my phone back into my pocket. I can't believe she's here. I take a few steps forward, which quicken the closer I get to her. My hands go to her waist and I lift her up onto me. Her hands go to my hair and she squeals as I spin her around. Her hair flies behind her as I stand stagnant. I place her back down and I hold her tight against me. God, I missed her smell. I missed her laugh. I missed her ... well, everything.

I move my head away from his chest to see his face. My hand goes to the back of his neck, pulling him to my lips. His breath hitches before his mouth wraps around mine. His hands go to my cheeks, catching my tears. His hair tickles my forehead. My other hand finds a home on his lower stomach. He groans into my mouth at the feeling of my hands on him. I break away from him to tell him my confession. "I love you."

My eyes stare at her mouth. The words that fall out of them look like a masterpiece. The words themselves are music to my ears. I can't believe she said them. Hell, I can't believe that she's here in front of me. Kissing me, roaming her hands on me, telling me the words that I've wanted to hear. Fuck it, I don't care if anyone hears. "I love you."

"I love you." I giggle against him.

"I love you." I suppress her giggling by placing my lips on hers once more. I feel her smile against mine. My hands go down to her waist, pulling closer to me. Pelvises touching. I try to move my head down more to minimize the height difference. She was always so small. So precious. So beautiful. I lose myself in her and I hear the applause behind me, as well as Teddy wooing at the top of her lungs. Best surprise ever.
